OK, I'm humbled. Many thanks for all the warm SG101 welcomes and kind words. To respond to those who have asked questions in this thread so far:
Big Tiki Dude: Sure, I'll be glad to field any odd question about surf music that might come along on SG101. Remember that "I don't know" is a valid answer!!
Marco (aka surfraptor): I still have the artwork you sent me years ago and greatly appreciate the time and effort you put into it. One of these days, I might even post it to my website! For those wondering what I might be referring to, this is the cartoon drawing titled "Rumble at Waikiki" that Marco posted to this thread earlier.
jp: Can the new discographies be pre-ordered? No, sorry. I also do not have a publishing schedule right now. The best I can do is tell all of you that new editions of the surf and hot-rod discographies WILL be published in the near future.
Danny Snyder: Current surf bands I like? I must honestly tell you that I haven't really been listening to a lot of contemporary surf music lately. My tastes are rather eclectic...the new Travelling Wilburys' CD/DVD set has been in rotation on my player lately as have the Rhino reissues of the Doors' LPs. And hardly a week goes by that something by Webb Wilder doesn't get played. In between all of this, I'm usually listening to surf music from those old, circular pieces of black vinyl with big holes in the middle....lol....

That's great to hear - I'm really looking forward to these. Welcome, John!

those rhino doors re-issue cd's are pretty interesting...i really enjoy the remixed remastered tracks...and all the bonus cuts...i think i like "the celebration of the lizard" bonus track best so far.

If you don't value those holes for sentimental reasons, they can probably be fixed. In fact, there's probably a kit for it.
Otherwise, regarding all those things other folks said better, "Likewise."

John Great news on all the upcoming things. Books, cds, and re-issues.
also,
thanks again to You and Marty Tippens for playing at Baja Marty's B-day party. that was one of the high lights.
When I read that you listen to the Doors, that made me very happy.
Not that I need Validation from someone else as to what I like being cool or not. But I think its puts a tiny kick in my step knowing that someone so into trad surf digs the Doors.
I was listening to Riders on the storm the other day and realized its a very similar bass line to Pipeline. Coincidence , I think Not.
anyways hope you hang out here every now and then.

Increase the speed on your record player while listening to the Doors and it'll sound a lot like surf music (with a singing chipmunk).

I realize one has to submit a certain amount of posts/news items, etc., to elevate themselves up the SG101 hierarchy(gremmie, hodad, enthusiast, etc.), but it seems inherently wrong that someone like John Blair has the status of "newbie."

Yes, a certain honorary title may be in order.
