Permalink Richie Polodor Comp status

New Topic

I have been out of the loop for a long time but I remember that the Richie Polodor Comp. was near completion last time I checked. Does anyone know the status?

Shocked

I saw Mel this weekend at the Tiki Oasis 7 in San Diego.
He said its not going to come out to the public.
But hes looking into getting it out to all the bands.

Ferenc, may know a tad more.......

Wasn't Roberto from Om Om Records in Italy looking at
putting it out???

That's too bad. Would've been a cool comp.

Mel Said Roberto wasn't real into it, and if he did do it, it would not be up to par of how Mel wanted it to be.

Also he said Sundazed said they were interested, but never came around to doing anything for it. Also they took a bath on the Podolar re-issues, as most people don't really know who he is, and they didn't sell well at all.
And that made a big part in the decission of them not doing anything about it.

oh well, if the bands do get the copies, Mel said he had no problem with the bands making cdrs of their copies for fans or friends.

so there is a chance of it getting out there in small quantities.

What about Rickshaw? Any interest there Rick?

The mechanical royalties alone just sink this project- 40+ songs at nearly $100 per. It is just not commercially viable.

How many of the bands have released the track they recorded for the project on their own releases? You might want to start a pool and assemble the trib on your own.

nice idea Ferenc. if anyone has a tracklist, please start a new thread where anyone can post if he knows were to find a specific track.

also, would it be doable to post the unreleased tracks if any somewhere on arhive.com or something like that, or will that create royalties issues? I imagine so.

It would be interesting to hear what OmOm had in mind.

Mel Said if it was released on a semi Pro cdr to all the bands he would have no issues with someone putting it on archive.com .

I think if he doesn't make money from it, there is no issues of getting the
royalties payed.

He wants somebody to step up and do a decent artwork, and small history book for it.

Jeff(bigtikidude)

p.s. I bet only about 10 to 12 of the 40 something tracks have been released.

Not true. If anyone releases a copyrighted tune to a public arena - even a CDR, on CDBaby, or hosts it on their own webspace, they are liable for paying the royalties. The Harry Fox Monopoly now requires up-front licensing, which means you have to pay the royalties before you make a single disc... even if that disc never sells a single copy. If you don't pay, and they catch you, the fines are exponetially higher than the royalties.

Nope... I'm done releasing cover-tunes. It doesn't do much to elevate the bands in our little niche market. However, that said, I have a great (and marketable) compilation idea waiting in the wings for 2008. I've started the initial prep, and the few people who I "leaked" the idea to already want to be a part of it. Details will follow early next year.

(PS, if you already know, please don't post anything about it yet. Thanks!)
