I use a wound G and B, wish I could find a wound high e. The B is still shrill, but it's much better than a solid string.
Holy smokes! What gauges are you using?

Remind me never to shake hands with you.
I’ve been on every side of string gauge issues, from surplus suspension bridge cables to string sets so light what you just leave the top string off :), and at the end of all that, I have very little solid data beyond two simple facts: plain strings sound brighter than wound strings and, plain strings intonate sharper. That’s it; a lifetime of tireless research, and I’ve learned what was obvious on day one.

If I was strictly playing rhythm, I might go for a wound G, but for lead work, IMO a plain G is the way to go!
