I hear a lot of Strat in there but UNDERCOVER seems to have more Jaguar sounds. I also noticed the huge pedalboard used for the current acoustic set up. What's in there? Top

Not sure what he plays these days, maybe he'll see this thread and shed some light? I remember he once told me his reverb tank setting was 6/6/6. "The mark of the devil" he said with a grin. I've seen quite a lot of live surf bands over the years, but none came close to the excellence and power of J&TN. No other surf band has ever managed to keep me captivated from the beginning to the end. — Matter is just energy waiting to happen. Top

John Joined: Aug 23, 2007 Posts: 614 Monterey County, California	Posted on Sep 21 2007 09:43 PM Just discovered this question...sorry. Yea, it was a vintage Jag in the early days. Then, I got a '57 Strat in the early 80s, which quickly became my main guitar for both shows and recordings. I think I started using the Strat almost exclusively beginning in the mid-80s. There have been very few instances, both live and in the studio, when I've used the Jag or an early Jazzmaster for either a lead instrument or an overdub on some particular tune. Amps along the way have been a Dual Showman or a late 60's Super Reverb exclusively. Pedals...I don't recall ever using anything besides a stage tuner and a tremolo pedal in the early days of J&TNs. Later, I added an Akai Headrush pedal ("tape" echo/normal delay) and used that sparingly on certain tunes live and in the studio. For the recent acoustic guitar work with Marty Tippens, I haven't really expanded beyond the tuner-tremolo-delay loop, which is enough. When spring reverb is added to the mix, the use of an acoustic guitar instead of an electric makes it more challenging to dial everything in effectively without it becoming a sonic morass.
