N.G.D. (new guitar day) Some of the modern/more recent Surf bands are using the pawn shop specials from the 60's. So much so, that there are a few "re-issues".
I discovered a Re-issue of the Silvertone 1478 offset style guitar (NOS circa 2018). The originals were pretty bad but this is built by Samick. They addressed most all the serious defects while managing to retain the original appeal/intent. It was a poor man's Fender Jaguar. For me the big appeal was the weight. Fender Jaguars can be a min. of 8.5 lbs. and are often much more. Out of the box, this weighed 6 lb. 6 oz. Amazing !

I got a reissue silvertone--different vibe than that one, but it's a great guitar for short money.

Anyone condidering buying one of these 1478 Re-issues, apparently the weight can vary greatly. I just bought a 2nd one since they seem a little hard to find. Sadly for me, this 2nd one weighes a full 9 lbs. !! Since weight was important to me, this will have to go back.
