I know this might sound pretty out there, but I've just come to the conclusion that I am a collector of surf band related T-shirts. I have about 30 in my "collection", most of which I have never even worn. I have them all neatly hung-up in a closet together. And for me, "neatly" is a real unusual concept.
Several of my all time favorites are:
The original X-Rays shirts (got a slew of these by default)
The Dick Dale infamous "I'm a Dick Head" shirt
The Mariners (great art work)
The original Aquasonics issue
The Mondellos......this shirt is really fried check it out on their myspace page. For me...this is THE shirt.
My Natural Art Surf Shop is a great one, and I actually wear it a lot.
Anybody else out there collect any other surf music related items? (CD's and records don't count.....now 8-tracks of surf music should qualify)
Oh yeah, I forgot the Intoxicators.....with Brian's mug on the front. (He is one brave dude.)

Well my surfboard is about 20 yrs old now, isn't that getting into the vintage class?
I've got Billabong thongs that are older, shirts and 'surf' pants. The only reason I've still got the clothes is because I grew out of them and they're still in the cupboard.
So, now they're worth something?

I have a collection of surf-related scars.
I also have several pairs of 30+ year-old bodysurfing fins, mostly Churchills and some Duck Feet. I used to go out to Sandy Beach real early in the morning after there'd been a storm and pick up an armload of fins. Then I'd take all the ones that didn't fit me back out there on a nice day and sell 'em right on the beach.
Oh, and I have probably 8-10 Hawaiian shirts, all Islander brand rayon, and all solid colors with orchids. Those are the ones I like.

I have quite a few tiki mugs that I've collected over the years from thrift stores.

Sounds perfectly reasonable to me. I once saw a collection of Altaic (Turkic, Mongolian, etc.) Language Conferences T-shirts. Very nice, by the way! By comparison surf T-shirts sounds downright mainstream. And there a lot more of them, too, and probably with even nicer designs.

If you mean the one with the turquois script label on black, I agree that it's really nice. I like the Pollo del Mar tiki canoe, too.

Here's an unusual category you may want to add. I saw a guitar-shaped flyswatter at the Swing Station in LaPorte, where the Aquasonics were playing last night - an interesting road house sort of place NW of Ft. Collins. (It was a little hard to find LaPorte in the dark on county roads, but once I did, the Swing Station was easy ...) I pointed the flyswatter out to Chris Fesker and he allowed as how he had one at home, "unused."

I must say I buy as many surf band t-shirts as I can. Although being a poor college student doesn't allow me much money to buy them. I can't even afford the music.

You seem to have an extensive gear collection for being a poor college student. ;)

Exactly, gear is all I can afford. It is a disease. I am just letting all my college bills pile up until I graduate.

gear is all I can afford.
And I can only afford to dine on escargot and champagne.

I'm pathetic, all I have is some Ron Jon stickers...
I've always wanted to surf, but I'm too chicken, and the water is too cold in Oregon...
