Hi folks!
Somewhat recently, Stampede! (rerelease) and Surf Beat '80 were removed from Spotify. I have been struggling to find a place where I can listen to these two great surf albums. Does anyone know where I can find them?

Yea, most of the J&TNs' streams have been removed because of a project being discussed for next year. I'm also sold out of both of these CDs, so your best bet at the present time is to find a copy of the CDs online. — |

This may sound like a crazy suggestion, but... Have you considered a turntable? I hadn't until a few years ago, and I'm glad I picked one up. There are many releases that were never brought over to digital in the 80's and 90's, and the only source for some of this music is the original vinyl records. So there's that. Potential access to something you could't hear any other way. But with so many people uploading to YouTube and the like, there isn't a ton of undiscovered stuff out there. Next is the album artwork, in the size and format it was meant to be viewed. Third is the ambiance of the records and sitting down to actually listen to a record...The experience of listening to the record and focusing your awareness towards the music. Playing a record requires your attention. You have to unsleeve it, brush it off, put it on the table, put the tonearm down. Then halfway through you have to get up and turn it over. When its easy to throw in your ear buds and mow the yard with an album playing, that's fine. Great, even. But your consciousness isn't fully directed toward listening, its whatever you're doing at the time with background music thrown on top. Which can be a great experience as well! Also there is the "Vinyl Community", with whom you can connect and have fun with. You meet people who are into certain things, so you look for records for them and they help you find things. Pretty cool deal. I have a friend who buys anything with waves on the cover, for me. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't! Lastly is the "Analog sounds better" argument. I personally don't take a position on that one. John and the Nightriders are widely available on vinyl. I have most of the releases. Enjoy them often. I know this isn't what you asked, but I thought it might be a good time to bring it up. And, OP, if you're already into records I apologize for the sales pitch. ME |
