Permalink 80s pop/rock surf covers

New Topic

Just show yours or some that you like! I think that 80s music is a vast land for surf covers, synth pop, electro pop, darkwave, new wave, etc. I’ve heard some really good surf covers of New Order, A-Ha, The Cure and other stuff but I want more! This is my first try, no proper mixing and mastering, just raw 80s garage stuff) But I surely need to learn it, so any advice is welcomed.

Have you heard Banned From the Beaches cover of “The Break Up Song (They Don’t Write ‘Em)?” They do an awesome job of it, especially the version where the guy in the audience says “I love this song!” Laughing

MooreLoud.com - A tribute to Dick Dale. New EP Louder Than Life available on bandcamp and website. Taking guitar lessons from Jimmy Dale.

Found this one, really nice!

We played "One Step Beyond" by Madness in our earlier days.
Used a fuzz for the sax part.
Fun song and translated well.

We used to do The Ocean Blue's "Between Something and Nothing".
Seemed to work pretty well

We do a couple, and if I ever get some free time, we'll do a couple more! Here's "our lips are sealed" and "tainted love" (which I realize is a cover of a cover!)

there's some good stuff out there.....

I am now playing trumpet with Prince Buster tribute band 'Balzac'

Playing keys and guitar with Combo Tezeta

Formerly a guitarist in The TomorrowMen and Meshugga Beach Party

Latest surf project - Now That's What I Call SURF

‘80s Pop/Rock strikes me as perfect raw material for Surf treatment.

The artist formerly known as: Synchro

When Surf Guitar is outlawed only outlaws will play Surf Guitar.

Here's a version of Elvis Costello's "Girls Talk", though mostly inspired by the Dave Edmunds version

And, if you aren't sick of it, The Clash's "Charlie Don't Surf" (video below my sig)
