How do you like your vibrato? I used to have a Bigsby with Vibramate on mine but it never returned to pitch (tried everything and even had a couple of luthiers try to make it return to pitch). So I took it off. Also finding strings long enough was a PITA.

Mine is upgraded with Collar Firebird pickups, Bourns potentiometers, and I took off the banjo tuners and put on Steinnberger machine heads (it stays in tune perfectly now!).

Is it common to have fret buzz from Squier Jags right out of the box? I keep hearing that the Jag is designed to use heavier strings and once you put heavier strings on it it will fix the issue. Is that correct

I haven’t found anything that tops the heft and sting of my ‘66 Mosrite Mark I, it cuts through reverb like a hot knife through butter. I stupidly traded it off and went through a dozen guitars trying to find that sound again. Luckily I was able to buy it back, lesson learned!

I bought it all taken apart in pieces for $500CAD about 8 years ago, someone had sanded the paint off the back. I managed to piece it back together with some help from a local guitar tech and had the back painted black at an auto shop.

I can’t imagine playing or recording with anything else at this point.

OK, for all concerned and interested, tell us how those G & L "Jazzmaster-like" guitars hold up under Surf-scrutiny. And, do the Guild's really make the cut? Cannot help but notice no Surfmaster, LOL_

I now got three of them and all are great for different surf stuff. I think it covers most of the surf territory from classic clean to fuzzy westerm or rocky/punky surf stuff. Strat single coils, P90’s and Filtertrons, alder, maple and mahogany, three types of tremolo, two types of scale, bolt in and set up necks and you are mostly done for any surf sound.

Yep! And this time it was conscious choice under the circumstances, cause I now cannot afford more guitars, so was estimating what variety I really need for recording and live shows. Surely one strat also would be enough, but it’s too sad being with only one guitar(.

Have you ever had a Strat where the Neck and Bridge pickups can be used together? I would think that would be a great Surf sound.

yep, mostly on all of them) and this one is american pro II with push-push that switches on neck by default)
