Just curious. Anyone tried it?
I love my 2 Jazzmasters, but my new-to-me '62 AVRI Jag just kills.
I know tone is a combination of many factors (scale length, all that chrome, etc), but should I consider stealthily putting some Jag pickups in my AVRI Jazzmaster? (it's the silver one I had Marty Bell refinish. The CAR is a real 1965)

That silver sparkle Jazzmaster of yours has some fine tone my friend. I don't know if I would change a thing about it. BUT if you are anything like me, you won't be satisfied until you try it. You could always change it back if you don't like it. My Jaguar is currently getting refinished but my main player is a custom build that I am currently using a trio of Firebird pickups in. I have even been known to use Filtertrons on occasion. It doesn't hurt to experiment.

Paging Mr. Katcher. Mr. Eddie Katcher.
I’m pretty sure resident member and big kauhuna leading the GA band The Surge has gone there - Jag pickups, possibly Strat but I think Jag, under Jazzmaster covers in an otherwise AVRI Jazzmaster setup.

Wouldn't you have to do some routing to fit the Jag pickups in there, since the JM pickups are flatter? I'd be more inclined to do that mod on a Squier Jazzmaster and get a custom pickguard made rather than trying to fit the Jaguar pickups under JM covers.

Yep, I've stuffed a pair of Jag pickups under the Jazzmaster's stock pickup covers. You will have to route the body a bit to get the neck pickup low enough as to not have too much magnet pull on the strings. I ultimately went back to the Jazzmaster's original neck pickup to fatten the two pickup on sound. I still have the Jaguar pickup in the bridge position on that guitar. I actually prefer the Jazzmaster pickups but the modified guitar is much more quiet in places where there is a lot of RFI, neon lights at such.
Jeff Senn has used what I believe is basically a Jazzmaster with Jaguar pickups that he purposely built for instro and it sounds fabulous.
Maybe Jeff with chime in here.
Cheers,
ed
