On Monday March 21 I will be doing a special program from 8-10pm on KFJC (kfjc.org 89.7FM) to consider the question "Do women like surf music?". A bit of a silly show in honor of Women's History Month! Please email cousinmary@kfjc.org with your opinion, either in an audio clip I can play or a text I can read - I will only identify you by your first name. Do women only like music with vocals? Did you and your girlfriend break up because she wouldn't go with you to surf shows? Do other women think you are weird because you love surf music? Discuss! Feel free to include a request. I will need to have your email by Saturday 3/19. Oh and keep it clean, okay?

I just listened to the show and to me it was very informative with lots of interesting perspectives on the subject! To pick up from Dotty's convincing interpretation that the lack of female interest is just a "myth", it would be interesting to find out, where, when and why this narrative started. (I know very little of the California punk scene of the early 80s, which was part of the background of the second wave of suf music, but maybe it plays into this?)
