I miss the lively discussion on here.
Same here. I would love to see stuff like people's top 5 albums/artists, or just talk about a record. I've tried to spark that discussion before but with little success.

Tim reporting in. I check SG101 every day, usually a couple of times. I'm not in a band, but playing guitar is one of my primary hobbies and surf is my main musical interest. I like modifying guitars, discovering bands (both old and new), and learning obscure trivia about the history of surf music. SG101 checks all my boxes. I consider this my homebase on the internet. I may not post a lot, but I'm still here.
I am a member of several surf music related Facebook groups, but I find them vapid. FB is useless for a deep dive into a subject. If I want to know how to setup a Jag, I come here. This is where I learned to build my Surfy Bear reverb unit. I get tired of seeing the same ten "newly discovered" videos posted on FB. Yes, I know that Dick Dale once played Pipeline with Stevie Ray Vaughan, and that it is a shocking fact that some surf bands have female members, there are even some bands that are all female, and some C&W pickers were amazingly fast and twangy. And don't get me started on all the posts that begin with, "This is not really surf, but..." Anyway, I like it here and I'm glad you're here, whether you are a SG101 regular or just stopping by. If you post something and you hear crickets, just know that I'm out here and I appreciate you, whether you are announcing a new album or a new favorite pick.
Agree agree agree. I could maybe see Discord being ok for in-depth conversations, but it's still very fleeting and washes away in time. I think good ol' forums are still the best answer, but some people basically just check like two websites when they get to a computer. And I get that.

I'm here!
I only joined recently, so I'm not leaving any time soon. Mainly just reading rather than posting as I've got more to learn by listening than talking.

My current (and final) band is a bandmate from my original 1964 band and me. Studio only, no more live gigs.
I am on 101 every day, first thing.

Still somewhat active on SG101. Band has been tamed by Covid but still managing gigs occasionally. I'm personally about to start recording a more complex surf project. Been a long time in the waiting.

Band died last year but I check here several times per day, and I’m not on FB, just OSG and a couple of other forums. The band will rise again, but for now it’s just demos.
It’s so fun to read old threads here, then it gets sad to see how many passionate people are no longer posting.
Without a doubt, this site is the best place for surf music discussion. When I found it four years ago, it was so exciting I remember panting while reading, I was out of breath! It may not have the traffic of olden times, but it’s still the best and the code needs no updating.

Still here. Try to check in at least once a day. The Luau Cinders are still active (at least in theory).

The Fabulous Blue Wabbits are still here! COVID lock-down has sort of knocked the stuffing out of our practice and recording schedule, but we're not dead yet!!!

The Driptones, one of the loudest bands in the mid-south, is reading this forum several times per week. Let's keep this site active and alive!

The bands I've been associated with are all defunct or on hiatus. I'm still working on VOL2 of Now That's What I Call Surf! - surf covers of 90s pop hits. So perhaps technically I still qualify.
