Permalink February 2022 Roll Call! What Bands Are Still Reading SG101?

New Topic
Goto Page: 1 2 3 4 5 Next

Just curious....

We all know that social media has impacted the interaction here on SG101. Some just follow the numerous groups on there for their information and discussion and some are just out of the loop entirely.

I know that MANY folks lurk and don't necessarily interact. Those still posting might question who, if anyone, is actually reading their posts.

Can we conduct a little experiment?

If you are in an ACTIVE band and are still interested in SG101 and still read regularly, please chime in on this thread.

Just trying to get a sense of who is still active and cares.

No need to say anything specific, just identify yourself and your band.

Insect Surfers
The Tikiyaki Orchestra
The Scimitars
Lords Of Atlantis
Fiberglass Jungle - Surf Radio

Any reason why you are just looking for people in active bans? I check SG101 a few times a day. I only check fb like once every month or so. No instagram or twitter for me.

-Darren

The reason is that I am specifically interested in knowing what active bands are still reading.

JonPaul,
There are those of us who won't join FACEBOOK or TWITTER with a gun to their heads.
This forum is a more focused and Brian keeps it from getting out of hand.
A reply or thread may get cancelled, but you have to really work at it to get personally thrown off.

Tim reporting in. I check SG101 every day, usually a couple of times. I'm not in a band, but playing guitar is one of my primary hobbies and surf is my main musical interest. I like modifying guitars, discovering bands (both old and new), and learning obscure trivia about the history of surf music. SG101 checks all my boxes. I consider this my homebase on the internet. I may not post a lot, but I'm still here.

I am a member of several surf music related Facebook groups, but I find them vapid. FB is useless for a deep dive into a subject. If I want to know how to setup a Jag, I come here. This is where I learned to build my Surfy Bear reverb unit. I get tired of seeing the same ten "newly discovered" videos posted on FB. Yes, I know that Dick Dale once played Pipeline with Stevie Ray Vaughan, and that it is a shocking fact that some surf bands have female members, there are even some bands that are all female, and some C&W pickers were amazingly fast and twangy. And don't get me started on all the posts that begin with, "This is not really surf, but..." Anyway, I like it here and I'm glad you're here, whether you are a SG101 regular or just stopping by. If you post something and you hear crickets, just know that I'm out here and I appreciate you, whether you are announcing a new album or a new favorite pick.

I do wish SG101 had a "thumbs up" feature so that we could give each other some quick feedback.

Not that I’m in a band. But I look at it everyday.
I miss the lively discussion on here.

Stop by SG101 at least a few days a week if not most if even just to scan active topics on the homepage; El Mirage is alive and doing as well as could be expected these days.

Not sure how active the other EM fellas are in the usual Social Media outlets or here (suspect not super), but good or bad, I don’t have accounts on any of the usual suspects: YTube, FB, Twit, Snap, Tik, or, or, or. If it ain’t on SG101, I prolly ain’t seen’ it.

El Mirage @ ReverbNation

This is Tai with The Tentakills, here on a regular basis.

Master Phez checking in, with band info soon. Watch for news. This is a great site and I’m glad it’s here.

The Aces have been dormant with intentions of doing more someday but I read SG101 every day.
