Thanks! I've been dying to hear the new single having missed the radio debuts the last couple of days. Love it and looking forward to the album! Like Rev said, this is classic. Your drum fills are a huge part of that sound--they are phenomenal.

Thank you. This is from our upcoming album "Go Action!!" due out summer of 2022 on Hi-Tide Recordings.
We aren't really "going on" as much as getting as much released as we can with all 5 original Pilgrims, including Dave Pilgrim who passed away on March. He had finished all of his tracks for this album before that happened. Along with "Go Action!!" there are more releases of previously recorded material that we are working on getting out, so stay tuned.
As far as the remaining 4 of us doing anything, we still don't know if we will or what it would look like. The pandemic has put us on indefinite hold, except for recording, mixing and mastering, so we are not even worrying about it. We will just see what happens.
Thanks for the encouragement, it means a lot and hearing Dave live on with these recordings is emotional for us, as was finishing the record and mixing it. It has been difficult, but also very cathartic and good.

Glad you got to hear it! re: drums - thank you so much, this was the first song that we recorded for this project with our home setups. I am only using a pair of condenser mics about 10 feet in front of the kit. Recording a song without the other guys in the room for the first time was weird and not very easy at first, especially since I was first and just playing with myself and playing along with a sharpie chart I had made and taped to the wall so that I played the correct amount of measures and played the fills at the right spots, so I really appreciate the kind words! It is definitely not perfect, but I like that it has an almost out of control feel like it could run off the rails. It fits the song, I think.
Thank you, thank you!

Sounds great! Those two condenser mics seem to balance nicely. We are working with a similar setup right now. We record alongside demos. I can't imagine having to drum with just the chart in front of you, good work!
Nicely mixed! Great tones! Great song!

I was wondering about the process you guys used to record it remotely so thanks for talking about that, Ted. Mainly, I had wondered who would have gone first. Like if it was the rhythm guitar, then the song would probably end up locked into a click track's perfect tempo and you'd end up having to play to that. Seems like something you'd try to avoid.
You going first keeps it more "real" but it also seems like kind of a drag to have to play without the rest of the guys in there. Like trying to film a conversation with CG character in front of a green screen. The end product doesn't sound any worse for it, though, so that's something. And actually, I bet there is a whole lot of music out there where the drums are done separately. I know Joe Satriani does it like that, for instance.
I really like that simple mic setup sound. On previous albums (aside from the last) has your setup been a lot more involved?
Interesting to hear you talking about the future of SP. Seems like a really tough thing to deal with, having lost not only a man but also the complete synergistic unit he was part of.
Finally, I can't believe you're making us wait until next summer to get the whole album! Hopefully it's because you're pressing CDs.

Thanks for explanation Ted! It’s not easy and we are totally with you guys. Dave and all of you were a great inspiration for us for many years and I am glad that we will hear some more of his ancestry!

It really became that each song was done differently as we went through the year. As I said, this was our first attempt and we learned a lot (and acquired some other mics and equipment as we went), but the primitive room mic sound of this first attempt really seemed to work for the song, so I never went back and re-recorded the drums as I did on a couple of the others.
The other cool thing that happened recording this way is that the drums and guitars sound completely different song to song as they were done sometimes months apart with different mic setups and equipment. After decades of making rushed albums where we set up and "got the sound" hit record and did every song while the clock was ticking, this was a much more relaxed and slow moving process. Some days I woke up and thought "maybe I'll just go and record the drums for that song again". My day job had disappeared and I had the time to listen back and think about it. We didn't strive for perfection, it is still rough and tumble SP, it was more which brand of rough and tumble would fit the song best. Each song was worked on as it's own entity without thinking about how it sounded next to the other songs. We are really happy with the variety.
Don't look at me about the delay. If you haven't seen the news about it, like many other things in covid, record pressing plants are backed up for months, even close to a year. Everyone decided to record an album or two with the free time and caused a glut! Like the Les Agamemnonz release, Hi-Tide is planning to release a digital single every few months leading up to the actual release and we were happy to have this one come out now as sort of a "hey we are here" song and get the conversation going about Dave and this project. I am so glad that we decided to work on this during the pandemic and were able to capture more tunes with Dave, not knowing what would eventually happen.

No, these digital singles will be released leading up to the release of the full album, "Go Action!!", which will be released on lp and other physical formats on Hi-Tide.
Don't worry, there are other physical 45s (the kind with the big hole and a song on each side) coming from SP soon!

Great tune, Ted! Original and punchy, with a great hook. I like all the little syncopated rhythm guitar hits. I'm looking forward to the album. Also, I really dig the art.
