Permalink New Volcano Kings record is one of the best Western albums I've heard

I've been a big fan of this band -- a lot of their tracks have a pretty heavy surf influence, but there's also a different cinematic and orchestral element to them that feels unique to them.

I posted this one in the shallow end because the surf aspect is certainly present, but it's much more of a spaghetti western album. Even then, it's not entirely straightfoward, with post-rock spacey elements that remind me of Friends of Dean Martinez.

Whatever it is, it's absolutely fantastic. I think they hit a lot of the intangibles that keep Morricone unique in the genre.

Storm Surge of Reverb: Surf & Instro Radio

Just checked out a handful of these tracks and whoa, super cool stuff! Definitely got an OK Computer vibe on a few tracks, and the band's definition of "lo-fi" sounds pretty darn polished (excellent!) to my ears. The music/instrumentation definitely suits the apparent "spaghetti western on Mars" theme of the record. These songs are quite immersive and I'm looking forward to a deep dive this afternoon. With all the thought and creativity that went into the individual songs, I have a feeling listening to the entire record in sequence will enhance the experience.
