All,
I'm thinking of releasing my next cd/album with a mixture of surf instrumentals and Beach/surf vocal music. All originals. Beach/surf will be similar to Jack Johnson, The Walters "New Girl (Tom's Song), Her's, Beach Fossils' "Down the Line" and the like.
My concern is that these songs represent two different audiences and may end up not being listened to by either.
Is there an audience for a split of vocal/instrumentals?
Does it even matter in the digital age?

The Trashwomen, Guantánamo Baywatch, and The 5, 6, 7, 8’s do it very well, so I say do it! Or else just make two sibling bands.

Combining vocal and instrumental surf music is a great thing with the best examples in my opinion being Dick Dale and The Trashmen. My general advice would be to try and do some real vocal surf music and not any Jack Johnson style clueless crap. We did a single some 10 years ago with one side being vocal and the other instrumental. Still in print for a really good price from Double Crown:
