Anyone notice the "Pipeline" cover at the end credits of the Sopranos last night? It was a hardly recognizable heavy-metal version...

I heard it, but I don't think it was heavy metal, I think it was Johnny Thunders. I also heard the classic instro "Beatnik Fly" in there as well. --ferenc —Buy Speed of Dark @ Bandcamp |

As I understand it, Steve Van Zandt, who plays Silvio on the series, does indeed have a strong voice in what music gets used (or at least seriously submitted for use) in THE SOPRANOS. That's how a great fuzztone instrumental by Davie Allan & The Arrows made its way into one episode a coupla years ago. BTW, I went to HBO.com's SOPRANOS site and found a direct link from the music page to iTunes, which enabled me to buy Johnny Thunders' version of "Pipeline" for a dollar and have it in my iPod immediately. The odd thing, though, is that the link went to the wrong version. iTunes sells two, so I actually bought them both. I'm reasonably certainly it was the OTHER one that was used in the show, and not the one that the link took me to. I hope they've straightened this out by now. Anyway, Viva instro! Viva Lil' Steven!
