Greetings! I recently went from an occasional lurker to a member. I want to experiment and record a surf style song or two. I am a guitar player and am looking for advice on creating a drum track in my DAW. I would like to map out a basic rhythm and a couple fills. Can anyone help map out the drum pattern for Misirlou and Pipeline as two examples?

Welcome to the SG101 community, Phrygian!
I suggest you start by keeping it simple:
Kick: straight 4-on-the-floor quarter notes.
Ride cymbal: straight eigth notes.
Snare: hits on the 2, the “&” of 2, and the 4.
Fills: one bar of straight sixteenth notes, - either 4 or 8 hits per drum.
Crash cymbal on the “1”.
search SG101 for much more on this topic ...
Have fun!

Cool.
Try adding some accents for extra credit:
Ride cymbal: accent beats 1,2,3 and 4.
Fills: accent beats 1,2,3 and 4.
Lose the high-hat cymbal altogether!
