Too bad you're so far south. My bass player and I are starting to work some stuff up as soon as we find a drummer and maybe a keyboard player.

I've been lurking on this forum for months. This is my first comment ever and I am using this opportunity to nominate "startup band in colorado springs?" as the "Surf Guitar 101 All Time Best Forum Topic". The heartbreakingly earnest perseverance of Horax is admirable. I live in the Ann Arbor area/western frontier of metro Detroit, and by golly if it were possible I would jump in my flying saucer and help Horax conquer the Front Range surf scene! This man does not quit. He clearly has the good humor and sense of commitment one should look for in a quality band mate. A lesser citizen of Colorado would have given up and formed a Samples cover band by now. Horax, we salute you.

I hope you’re keeping a CL ad? Lots of players don’t know about this haven...
Best of luck! I kinda want to move to Colorado at some point, but it’s so cold! Summer is great though...

Cold? We average 350 days of sunlight a year...when it DOES snow, it's melted in less than 24 hours. During our 'bomb cyclone' it was gone within 48.
I am running ads. ;)

Horax, any chance you’re looking for a local drummer?

Hijacking this long and old post for a moment. I am planning to move to Colorado Springs in Summer of 2024. Been the guitarist and song writer in a surf band in Michigan for over a decade and hoping to start something new out in CO. Anyone out there still interested or know of any surf bands that need some help?

Let me offer you a pre-welcome to Colorado.
We have a radio show and a couple of bands that I know of. The drummer from Big Surf lives here now. I'm starting a surf fanzine.
My contact info in below if you'd like to connect that way.

Moving to the Springs in September. Hoping to find some new bandmates willing to write and play some original surf/spaghetti style tunes and classic surf covers. Mainly for fun, but would love to get back in studio or on stage. Any leads in Colorado? Bass, Drums, Guitars, Sax, Keys, lap steel... etc.
Cover of me playing my favorite Colorado based "Astronauts" tune.

Hey!
A friend of mine lives in Springs and his daughter plays drums. She happens to like surf too.
There are some others...

I'm in Colorado Springs! Very much a beginner guitarist in that I've only been playing for a year, but would love to play/practice/learn together.
And if you haven't got a band together yet, I'm totally down to explore that too!

Hi and Welcome...
I actually did get a surf band off the ground here in Colorado Springs! We've been rehearsing a couple months now and have a half dozen or so original tunes to hopefully record soon, along with playing some classic surf tunes. Anyone have name suggestions for a surf band at an elevation of 6700' and not a body of water bigger than a pond for hundreds of miles??? We have a name picked out but open to suggestions that are better.
Best of luck and hope to meet you... maybe a surf show if we get that far (hopefully soon).

Surfish names in Colorado are a challenge. If you were playing Trout Fishing music, the possibilities would be unlimited. Ever surf Barr Lake, up by Brighton? Neither has anyone else.
Here are a couple of lame suggestions. I just looked up the names of water bodies near The Springs, and let my limited imagination have its free range.
Pikeview Surf Club
Palmer Lake Pirates
My interest in Surf was rekindled in Denver, seeing Junior Brown at the Grizzly Rose, and hearing his Surf medley. I had once considered writing some Surf tunes and naming them after Front Range aquatic features, such as Barr Lake and the Platte, which is barely deep enough to support wading at some times of the year, and about the least surfable body of water, this side of a dry lake.
Living in Arizona, these days, it’s even worse. Surfing in this area is beyond impossible.
