My main amp is a Fender Twin Reverb Custom 15, equipped with a Fender-branded Eminence Commonwealth 15. I have been quite satisfied with it. I use it in my old-school surf band, and it works excellent for everything clean. But on some songs, I use a fuzz (Tonebender MK1 clone), and others tweed-style overdrive. Is it just me, or does the Eminence not work that great at all with a distorted signal?
There aren't a lot of 15 inch 4 ohm 100W+ speakers around. What would you use if you were to replace an Eminence Commonwealth 15 with something capable of tackling distortion while still giving a surfy clean sound?
Edit: And hi, everyone! I just realised I've never posted on this forum before. After several years of lurking, I've finally done it. Great forum, I've had a lot of use for it.

I wasn't a fan of that speaker in my Twin Custom 15 either, and replaced it with a Jensen C15K 4ohm which I liked much better. Still use this C15K and amp, but now in a head/tone ring cab configuration.

Where did you get a 4 ohm version of that speaker? Jensen only lists it at 8 and 16 ohms. I guess they used to make a 4 ohm version ... I want one too!
I've tried putting a C15N in the Custom 15, and it sounds exactly right. But I guess it is too dangerous having a 50W speaker in a Twin Reverb ...

I'll add that Weber neo-mags are pretty awesome, with a JBL vibe but not the weight, a definite plus in a Twin Reverb. I've got three of them, two in a 2x15" that I use with my Twin Reverb head conversion, and one in an Ampeg Gemini I. Not cheap, but good speakers rarely are.

The C15K 4ohm arrived today; I just installed it and have tried it for just a few minutes. First impression: it is somewhat darker and deeper than the C15N, yet it sounds exactly right. As Fendery as can be, but deep and wide. Definitely a good speaker for surf, the reverb sounds so much clearer and more defined than it did with the stock speaker. I guess the brand new Jensen will open up a bit after some hours of use, but I'm not complaining if it doesn't change at all. Out of the box, it is so much more present than the stock Eminence, and it sounds great with distortion. Just what I wanted. Thank you all, for your advice!
