No, but other people did and documented the design process. We really can't agree to disagree. It is like people who refuse to believe that George Washington didn't chop down the apple tree. You are perverting history.
You actually believe Dick invented the Reverb Unit, Dual Showman, and wrote Smoke On The Water? Or that he was the inspiration behind the name "Showman", although the amp was produced in 1960 and Leo probably had the name in 1959 and Dick was still doing his country western thing.

Boy..did I touch a nerve here or something.."we can't agree to disagree"? sheech...my understanding is that Dick pulled the reverb unit from a Hammond (wanted to fatten up the sound of his voice) gave the unit to Leo who designed the prototype of the reverb unit we use now. Never said Dick "invented" this to that but he WAS Leo's testing ground and to think he gave no input to Leo in the design of some products I believe is incorrect... At this point I don't see the good in re-hashing this...not out to change anyone's mind.... Peace...

Greetings and Salutations Gang- First time Responder here...
Weather Dick Dale DID or DID NOT invent the Reverb tank or slept with Zsa Zsa Gabor (Starting a rumor...pass it on if you must) does not take away from from the fact that he has been a major influence to the music we live by. So often I hear the discussion of "Who Came First...The Ventures, Dick Dale or the Bel Airs"? At this point does it really matter? Rock History, like any other "History" is told by the winners and it is sad to say that the maestro's of the "Surf Guitar" have been over looked by the R&R Hall of Fame Institution- It is up to us to make sure that the music is passed down and that proper credit is given where it is due. We may never learn the truth of what happened back in 1961 but whatever it is, I am glad that somehow...someway..the Gods gave us surf Guitar- It is the Anthem of The Gods !!!!
Enough on that- I'm going to see Dick Dale in Petaluma Sept. 21 st and pay homage to the Reverb Prophet- Perhaps I will see a few of you there.

Also I understand from everyone that does know him he's a very gentle loving caring person for everyone in his enviroment. So Im pretty sure that that is NOT "how he likes to treat his women".   
the whole Fender invent this, invent that.... he was at the roots of it all that's for sure. the way I see it he had a catch-all endorsement with Fender, and some design input. much like Chet Atkins with Gretsch, or Steve Vai with Ibanez for that matter. Id almost say all DD invented was the endorsement but I think Chet was first.
but who cares? My theory-of-the-day is that Dick likes to build myths around his persona, cause myths sell. apart form a great musician, he's also an excellent businesman

There's a good article on DD and his input into early Fender designs by John Blair in Vintage Guitar Magazine 5/1997..there's a fellow on ebay selling them awhile back (may have more)..it was like a surf music issue...

There's gonna be much more about this in the upcoming book "The Soul of Tone", as DD is supposed to be one of the sources.
