Looking through the Messer Chups discography (Bandcamp link below) I noticed many are compilations but most are not labeled as such. It is difficult to tell which are albums and which are compilations. Plus, there are 30 or so releases! Any Messer Chups superfans that can sort it out?
Thank You

I may not qualify as a superfan when it comes to details of what where and when. But I’m definitely a superfan of how they make me feel. I love the composition. They are like an experimental orchestra using the instrumentation of a surf trio. I feel like the guitarist is free to express and explore his compositions in a very satisfying way. They are a prime reason I took the step to releasing instrumentals this year, because that feeling of musical freedom is intoxicating.
Actually speaking of MC discography I need to explore the earlier work. Such great music.

JonPaul's list in this thread is really good. Doesn't cover albums since then.
But those are not too hard to figure out.

I agree that the Discogs page is the easiest way to suss out what's an original release and what's a compilation.
Material before Hyena Safari is a lot different -- that was their electronic hybrid stage.
Releases after that are all pretty strong IMO, nothing in particular that I think must be listened to over another. Mondo Harp is a tiny bit different because they'vve added a harp.

Those early records are my favorite, they really pushed multiple genres. I have wondered what kind of outlandish stuff they would be coming up with if they had stayed that way. The surf stuff is cool, but that genre pushing stuff really floats my boat.

Thanks crumble, not so much for the pointer to the singles, but I see there is also a live recording of Messer Chups on the Internet Archive from their 2018 US tour:

Greasy Gills start their set around 1:10, Isaac Rother & the Phantoms around 2:06 and Messer Chups ca. 3:01. (Don't worry, the sound mix gets better balance with some time.)

I love the Messer Chups, one of the dopest surf bands around. I'm not sure I can clear up compilations vs. albums, but I'm consistently amazed at the volume of their output.
