I recently installed the Tru 62's in an American Deluxe Stratocaster. I have several stratocasters with various vintage Fender pickups. Last year I had purchased another American Deluxe that had DAllen 60's RocknBlues installed. I was amazed at the tone and how these pickups brought so many elements together for the sound I wanted to produce. I reached out to D Allen to find the closest pickup currently available to the 60's RnB's, The Tru 62's are amazing. Perhaps a little more tame but very clean and articulate. The reverb just drips out of these and there isn't a bit of harshness in any pickup location. I couldn't be happier with these two stratocasters. In every way possible they are the best pickups I have tried for surf guitar.

Based on your review, I am considering buying a set of these. Do I need a wiring kit as well? The only thing that is a little off-putting to me, is the contact form on his website. It's so much of a mess, I don't know if my message went through. I guess I'll find out soon!

They do sound awesome, very period correct to my ears (I am no expert). I'm trying to buy them, but have a question and can't get in touch with support.

I don't like doing this, but this is very coincidental in timing. I'm actually selling a set of his tru59 SV pickups out of a strat that I'm basically exchanging for a jazzmaster if you guys like his pickups. They are great, I would keep them if I weren't also selling the body.

I was concerned about my order as there have been some problems noted on some forums in the last few years. D Allen was highly regarded then had some personal problems that seemed to disrupt his reputation. I had emailed before I ordered and did not hear back immediately. I was concerned about that but wanted to duplicate the tone of my original set. I was relieved to take delivery and quite pleased once again with the Tru 62's.

Be patient and see if they get back after a few days. What I can offer about the tone of these is that they are much more pleasing then the Fat 50's which are fat for sure but to me sound like taking a bat to a large innertube. I just never bonded with their sound. Compared to 57'62's is that the tru 62's have much more depth and certainly low end. Compared to Pure Vintage 62's, (which I really like), once again just more low end but maybe not quite as bright.

I hope he gets his personal issues resolved, as I have gone through some difficult times myself. Having said that, if I am not getting good customer service before the sale, I certainly won't get it after.
I am not trying to be insensitive, but I think I'll just stick with the factory pickups for now (surf green Vintera 60's Strat). Thank you all for the replies.

I definitely have had issues with his communication in the past. I have one of his P pickups in a bass and the aforementioned Tru59 set that I'm selling. He makes great pickups, but the lack of communication was a bit worrisome. I had bought the strat set from a dealer (so no problems there) however. Buying the P pu directly from him was frustrating though.

Thanks for the info, cirecc. I really wanted the '62 pups, and didn't know what color would match my Vintera Strat pickups. He has three color options available.

Yes, I concur on the concern about ordering D Allens. My concerns went away as they showed up in perfect order.
Here is a recent recording with the D Allens. The left channel was recorded with the middle on my Quilter and the right channel was the bridge into my Bandmaster.
