I live in Queens NY. My GF and I had a long day hiking around the catskills, and NY being what it is, spent ages finding parking once we got back home. We ended up parking nearly a mile away from apartment. Tired, but resilient, we started trecking back carrying our gear when I saw a danelectro headstock sticking out of a pile of garbage on the street. When I moved the stuff on top of it I realized there were actually TWO guitars. A Dano Blaster Innuendo and an Epiphone Strat (I had no idea that was a thing). Towards the end of the month it's not uncommon to find perfectly good items in the trash as people are moving out and discard whatever they don't want and can't sell, but it's more common to find IKEA furniture than guitars. Given how dirty these instruments were, I imagine they were in some sort of basement storage space for awhile and the landlord simply decided to chuck whatever was down there.
I was originally just going to grab the danelectro since, as I'd mentioned, were were carrying a bunch of other stuff as well, but my girlfriend being the supportive trooper that she is, offered to help me carry the other so I could claim both. We had about a mile to walk back to the apartment so it was really kind of her. They were pretty dirty, but I spent the evening pulling them apart and cleaning them (checking them for bedbugs as well). As far as I can tell, they're both very cheap instruments, but operable.
So now I have 2 project guitars! I don't mess too much with my nicer instruments (aside from the requisite setup work I had to do on my Jag), but I love the idea of being able to frankenstein these a bit without too much worry. Right now I kind of want to turn the danelectro into a baritone spaghetti western machine. Not really sure about the epiphone strat, but I have half a mind to try to make something similar to Emma Ruth Rundle's dual humbucker bari. Any other ideas?
The Dani also had the jack ripped out of it which didn't seem to be a big deal at first, but those guitars came with dual outputs. One for the straight guitar tone, and another for the built in effects loop. While I could probably knock something together, I'm hoping to find a replacement plate for the dual jack setup. Anyone out there have any leads?

What a nice reward for such a long walk home! I used to live in Ditmas Brooklyn and sometimes I would get home after midnight and it’s just like you say. I miss New York a ton but I do not miss those walks! That’s very cool that you work on guitars and can actually make these playable. What a find!

Saying that I "work on guitars" is an extremely generous assessment of my abilities. Aside from basic setup I haven't done a much, but I love tinkering with stuff in general and am hoping these guitars will serve as a good introduction to the guitar mod world.

Wow! The Hodad looks like an actual proper guitar! From what I can tell, the danoblaster innuendo is more of a gimmick guitar with 4 onboard effects - Distortion, Chorus, Tremolo, and Slapback echo (turned on and off by the 4 buttons near the pots). Assuming they sound even halfway decent, I love the idea of keeping the slapback and tremolo, but am open to gutting the distortion and chorus to make way for something else. That may be a bit ambitious, though. For now I need to see if these pickups actually work and start from there. If they're no good, I'd consider tossing some p90's in mostly because I've never played on them and am curious.

Thank you! I can't believe nobody else grabbed them, and am also thankful it wasn't raining. Now if I could only find a P-Bass or Longhorn in the trash...

Hey, I live in Queens also!
Great find, congratulations!
Awesome! If you live in the Forest Hills area and are missing a few guitars, I might have some idea what happened to them...
