Great track! I need to go through my old ska/rocksteady albums to see if there’s any more surf covers.

Jackie Mittoo moved from Jamaica to Toronto in the 70s and was a big part of the reggae scene there. Great musician.

Wow!!! So cool Yes
Call the CDC because that groove is infectious!!!

Thanks for the infection DeathTide! Cool

The first time I heard Ska was on a 1964? Beatles special of Ready Steady Go! featuring Millie Small - My Boy Lollipop, brought to us by Chris Blackwell of Island Records. Sadly she died in May of 2020.

If there was ever a surf tune crying out for ska treatment it's the Belairs Squad Car! that would be super cool!

Awesome!!

That’s exactly how this popped up. I had to do a double take and go back. Prince Buster has some of the greatest songs ever recorded in my opinion, and Desmond Dekker has such a great voice! Alton Ellis is another one I love. But you’ve got to hand it to the Skatalites as well for keeping it instro! Yeah it was a joy to bust out those records and play them. Jamaican pressing errors and all! Do it!

This is wild I had no idea! Thanks for posting.

After thinking about it, I realize that a few old ska songs were covers of American music. Phyllis Dillon for example recorded lots of covers. So perhaps there was a lot of this borrowing that happened?
