I am new in the world of surf guitar. I would like you to recommend me places to learn, where to get resources to practice, ... and everything you consider interesting to be a terrifying surfer guitarist.

We released a Play Along with 2 tunes featuring full versions, just drum/bass version, and tabs. Fairly simple tunes.

I've played for decades and I would LOVE to be called a TERRIFYING surf guitarist!

I'm not mocking the poster/translation/language barrier - just thought it was a funny word substitution.

This is an excellent primer - original stuff, lots of variety.

I’ll add my 2 cents.

First, find some songs you want to play that don’t sound too difficult. Look on Youtube for tutorials on how to play the lead.

You might find that you can pick out the notes by ear. If so, get some software that will let you slow down a song and loop through small sections of the song.

Finally, there are lots of good backing tracks here on SG101. You may find a song there that you’d like to learn.

It's pretty much all there on YouTube if you prowl around, search and find the good stuff. I would've lost my mind (in a good way) if YouTube existed in 1980, when I got my first guitar at 11. I would've learned so much, so fast!

YouTubers like Bruce Lindquist and others are very generous with their time and teaching (tabs, helpful camera work, on-screen notations, etc.). It's a great time to be a beginning, new guitarist (or looking to branch into new, different styles). Anything in surf guitar that I couldn't figure out on my own, YouTube has been my friend for these past 7-8 years. And it doesn't even have to be outright lessons or tabs (which I don't use anyway). Just watching good players/bands is a great inspiration/motivation. Even if I'm not looking to learn/figure out something specific, I just enjoy watching someone like Ivan Pongracic playing his Strat in his backyard. I'll pick up SOMETHING, even if I don't immediately realize it.

After all these years, if there's something I need to learn or have any question(s) about, that's the first place I go because, chances are, someone's figured it out already and has shared it with the world.

This is a really good book. Everything is well explained and it has a great song selection even though I struggle to play
