Hello! I have a Squier Jag and I
want to change the 1M mini pots to
250K pots. Is there a resistor
value that I can use to bridge
two of the blades on the existing
1M mini pots to make their values
250K? I keep my pots dimed. So I
don’t need to worry about the taper
values changing. I’m just not up to
swapping out the 1M mini pots. If
you can tell me the value resistors
to use and also which blades to
bridge, that will be great. Oh yeah,
the value resistors to use to change
the pots to 500K would also be
helpful, just in case. Thanks for your
help!

Not One-Sawn, but Two-Sawn . . . AZ.

If they are dimed, turn them down just a few degrees and you have your 250k. It wouldn’t take much of a turn with an audio taper pot, probably less than 1/8 of a turn.

I don't know about how to wire it up properly but you're talking about wiring a smaller resistor in parallel with the 1 meg to yield 250k. A goofy technique, to be sure, but here's the formula:
1/Rx = 1/R1 + 1/R2
In your case you'd need a 333k resistor wired in parallel with your 1000k pot. But just buy a 250k resistor and replace the pot if you really don't want its functionality. Or just get some damned pots. It's not like replacing a pot is really any harder than wiring a resistor to it. Especially on a Jag with its nice quick metal plate!

Thanks for the replies. I'm planning on putting in Strat-style pickups and I really did want 250K pots along with a .047uf capacitor. This is a Squier Vintage Modified Jag and the space in that cavity is extremely confined. I would struggle to do a pot replacement. So, I was just looking for an easier way. Thanks for giving me a couple other ideas to consider.

You are lucky, swapping a pot on a Jag is a breeze.
