Dan Izen Hey, Dan, I was in a downsizing mode when you got the Dual Showman. My live performing days were over and I really had no use for the big amps anymore. I am very happy it went to a great new home and caretaker! I did keep a '67 Dual Showman with a clone 1x15 bass cabinet that my pal Eddie Katcher built for me several years ago. It is set up for bass with an E-V 15BX 400w 4 ohm speaker. It has the best bass tone of any bass amp I've ever played through and it is total perfection in the studio. I just couldn't let it go. The brownface Vibrasonic is rated at the same 40w as the Pro but came with a more powerful output transformer, so it will have more headroom than a Pro. However, the Pro I have can get stupid loud with very little breakup, even with it's oddball tube rectifier. It has that big, fat yet super clean "tone for days" sound that is hard to describe without hearing it in person. It kind of sounds like I personally would get a lot more out of the Pro than the Vibrasonic! Currently I pulled two tubes on the ‘62 Twin for quiet practice. Guitar into bassman 100 or studio basses. All with 15" jensens. Basses into a non-reverb super twin, paired with a 70s bassman 215 cab. I have lots of love for the Ed Jahns designs. Speaking of Ed Jahns, designs, I bought a Fender 75 in 1979 and gigged with it throughout the 80's. It was Ed Jahns' attempt to produce a Fender alternative to a Mesa Boogie. It was 75 watts, switchable to 15 watts by shutting down two power tubes; clean and lead channels, a 15" speaker, nice sounding on board reverb, and it weighed a ton! Mine was plagued with issues, massive cold solder joints, a toasted transformer, erratic noise issues and more. A major design flaw was that the reverb dropped-out when the lead channel was engaged. I ended up using it as a great clean amp, and pedal platform. I still have it, buried in the garage somewhere. Of course, they did have the maintenance they needed.. Caps, tubes,.. A non-reverb twin indeed. Approximately 180 to 200w pushed by 6 6l6 tubes. The beast Ted Nugent once used. I put the chassis in a portable head ;) I didn't need the reverb version as I have separate units and I use it for bass.. Plenty of power, no need to worry. — www.LosVenturas.be Top
