"Some Velvet Morning" always induces shivers with me too. One of the most brilliant songs of the era. Did they splice the tape toward the end of the song when the two themes intertwine or was it actually performed that way? These days, Protools would make something like that easy. I can't imagine a world where we didn't have Duane Eddy's twang.
I gotta mention Hazelwood's song "Summer Wine" with Nancy Sinatra too. I discovered it and Velvet Morning on flea market vinyl about 6 years ago and those songs still blow my mind today. What a great sound! "Sugartown" is a fun, corny,Nancy Sinatra tune that always cheers me up. Long Live Hazelwood, a brilliant man indeed.

Some Velvet Morning... awesome track! Hey, also well covered by Lydia Lunch, who I saw perform it in a very small club in Brisbane in 1992.
I was surprised to see you guys also mourning Lee's passing. I was gob-smacked to hear he'd passed away.

I am kinda puzzled as to what the song is about,
the lyrics seem kind of cryptic,

ok, let's just say it was the first of the "Psychadelic Cowboy" genre and leave it at that? 
Phaedra was an evil little godess who lied to Theseus then killed herself, leading Theseus to lay a curse on an innocent god (whoes name I can't recall). Why do I know this?... we use greek gods names for the servers where I work

Regarding "Some Velvet Morning"...I went and watched it, thinking I don't know the song - then as it first started I realized that I've known it since the late 80's - an Israeli singer named Rami Fortis covered it with translated lyrics when he made a first comeback in around 1989. I tried looking for his original album version, but all I could find on YouTube is a really lame cabaret version from one of his latest "comeback" live shows.

Lee was the master; a musical genius. He could write some of the most out there country music you've ever heard, write instrumentals, write great lyrics, etc.
Some of his orchestral work is amazing. Even as a producer he was awesome. Listen to some of his work with headphones on and you'll hear all kinds of great stuff going on -- layers upon layers.
All without knowing how to read or write music. He said he used to hum parts to his string and brass sections to play.
