Looks amazing!

I've always wanted a Gretch, just because Billy Duffy. Can do all Gibson stuff too, but cooler.
In reality, my Fender offsets are so over the top good for me, I'm settled.

Here is what I use...'65 Mosrite Ventures, and new Hallmark Custom 60. The Hallmark is actually a better guitar than the Mosrite. Has a very hot output, & sounds exactly like the Mosrite.
For amps...'64 Ampeg Gemini II, has the best reverb & tremolo on the planet, or '77 Twin w/JBLs.

Raylinds, in this photo my green strat-clone resembles your lovely strat. The pickguard on mine is a mirror and the pickups are aluminum coated to match. I thinned the neck extremely so that (with calipers) it is 18.3, 19, and 19.7 cm thick at frets 2, 5, and 9 thru 12. It has battery-powered active pickups with switchable bass/treble boosts.

The photo shows my 4 strat clones. Two have 5 pickups from different makers, with at least 3 variations on the lovely neck-bridge 2 pickup tone as on a Jag or JM, and 1 rails HB pickup. The yellow one has a Roland GK-3 pickup. I did all mods myself. I assembled the striped one from basic parts.

Might not be your kind of Fender! I've been gassing for one of these for 2 years but this one came within striking distance and had to be had. Stock photo from Google but mine is exactly the same. 9 years ago it sold new for under £600GBP complete with the case. Made in Japan with only few differences in build to keep the price lower than the USA model. Tobacco Burst, Graphite neck rods, double action truss-rod, 12"-16" compound radius fretboard and vintage sized stainless steel frets it's like ice skating for your fingertips! truly wonderful guitar I can hardly put down for a minute!
Very lightweight and has that familiar Stratocaster feel on the knee and Fender/Gibson-ish neck feel. It sounds great especially surf on the bridge pickup. I love this guitar!

The "MusicMan Sterling Sub Axis" guitar looks like that EVH model and includes a traditional fulcrum (strat-like) vibrato at its retail price of $300. It includes some kind of coil-splitting for single-coil tone. Reviews are very enthusiastic. This should not be mistaken for the similarly priced Chinese non-branded Axis-type guitar with a Floyd Rose type vibrato.

Haven't been here in a while. Although I've been playing for over 40 years I've only played in front of people twice. I like surf music as much as anything. My brother gave me this sweet Danelectro Danoblaster Inuendo for my birthday a few years ago and I think it's well suited for surf music. It has four built in effects - distortion, tremelo, chorus and echo with two output jacks - one for the effects and one straight out.

Thanks for chiming in Squid. I should have mentioned the guitar is a Fender EVH Wolfgang Special TOM MIJ also made in China for a short while. I was very temped by the Indonesian made Music-man series based on the Axis, the Sterling Ax40 & Ax40D with the Dimarzio Pickups, unlike the export EVH those were all imported, inspected and setup in their U.S. Factory. Myself I tend wear frets at an alarming rate so SS frets were of special interest as I've never tried them before plus these models are starting to gain in used prices, 2 years ago I could have bought a used one for £350GBP with case! The only issue I have is the previous owner never oiled the neck so now 9 years the fret-ends are protruding a tad. He also set the neck dead straight which is possible with compound radius but It'll choke on certain days. I'm aware of the present Stirling AXE models based on the Musicman AXIS Sport with the cut-nut and floating tremolo, from what footage I've seen/heard they are excellent for Albert Lee country style and more than likely surf. The Mexican EVH Wolfgang Standard is probably the highest spec cheap guitar Fender make, keep the skinny strings on, buy some mods, beat it up and have fun playing it!

While I have been happy with my Strat (pictured above), I liked the idea of having a surf-specific guitar. I play a lot of blues and Hendrix on it and do a lot of bending, so I didn't want to put heavy strings on it.

To be honest, I always assumed that Jaguars were just Strats without the middle pup, and the Jazzmaster was very similar, but slightly different pups.

After reading this thread I became intrigued by Jaguars, Jazzmasters, and Mosrites.

I spent a good deal of time on YouTube listening to some surf music played on these guitars. I first researched Mosrites. Funny thing was that most of the live footage of The Ventures had Nokie on Strats (and he sounded like Nokie on both guitars)! I did manage to find some proper samples of the Mosrite sound. I liked the sound but, other then the pickups being a little hotter, I didn't think it was enough of a different flavor than the Strat.

I have always loved the sound of The Astronauts, so really explored Jazzmasters. In the end, though it was the Jaguar sound that got me. I also liked the idea of the short scale that would allow me to use 12s and still have the same playability as my strat.

I think I really could have been happy with any of the three, but I just placed and order for a AVRI sunburst Jag.
