The preview track on Band camp sounds great. So which members of Down by Law are in this band, I'm intrigued... |

Thanks! It's Sam (me). I currently play guitar for Down By Law, and have since 1993. My first album was punkrockacademyfightsong. Which, incidentally, the bass player and drummer for punkrockacademyfightsong joined me for a song on this album, as well. They are the guest rhythm section for 'Beach Party Of The Damned'. —Guitarist for Black Valley Moon & Down By Law |

Reminded by the fantastic recurring gesture from Bandcamp yesterday for yet another Bandcamp Friday suspending their cut to help artists in the COVID-19 era (note, they've committed to doing this through 2020!)... I finally got around to picking up this album. In full transparency, I wasn't entirely sure what to expect other than suspecting something a bit punk inspired given Sam's more well known gig in Down By Law. I sheepishly and humbly admit to my pre-judging and projecting bias purely for the benefit of anyone else who may have browsed past this band and this release for similar reasons. I could not have been more off base. If you have any such preconceived notions... let 'em go, pronto. There are clearly a few moments where I feel and hear a touch of melodic punk sensibility, but there is SOOOO much more to be enjoyed and appreciated in this debut album. This is anything but a punky I IV V punch in the arm and fist in the air feigning and faking it trying to be some instro-surf-horror outfit. Great song writing. Great song production. Great recording and mixing. Super tasteful tones and instrumentation. Wonderful chord melodies and chord progressions - with plenty of embellished chords to keep your ears perked. Catchy and emotive melody lines, wonderful rhythm section changing it up and keeping it fresh. Clearly benefiting from seasoned pro studio & recording experience - anyone would be really hard pressed to listen to this and think "oh, that's the album from a 3 piece outfit" For me, each song invokes vivd mental pictures (Far From Any Road), or could frame a scene from a film (Beach Party of the Damned, Gaspar's Revenge, My Rifle, My Pony and Me), or just resurface beautiful feelings of young love (Cemetery Romance seems like the first date and DeSoto Moonrise could be the 2nd or 3rd - wistful, cheerful, first sight love and then a little more). Cemetery Romance and DeSoto Moonrise are my early faves, but the whole album is so damn good. I look forward to checking out the Spectral Melodies EP when it comes out and have my fingers crossed for The Baleful Sounds of Black Valley Moon Vol. 2 in the not too distant future. In the mean time I will absolutely be keeping Vol 1 in heavy rotation. Congrats on, and Thank you for putting out such a wonderful album for the world to enjoy, Sam! —Fady El Mirage @ ReverbNation |

Once again I'm very happy to say that SRW095 Black Valley Moon - The Baleful Sounds of Black Valley Moon Vol. 1 (12” vinyl LP) is now shipping! This is one of my most listened to albums, and the vinyl edition is superb. The graphics are super-vibrant with this amazing comic book like texture, and the pressing itself - wow! There is definitely a difference between the CD and vinyl editions, with a very chunky rhythm section that to be honest I just want jam along with, and some super cool embellishments on the lead. It's not a pure surf album by any means, but it is a GREAT guitar album. This is shipping from Asia initially (it was pressed at a Japanese owned plant that specialises in high-end jazz recordings) so expect 10-14 days for airmail delivery. There will be copies shipping from the USA in about 4-6 weeks, and UK in around 10 weeks. There is also a replenishment of SRW096 Digipack CDs in the USA too. https://blackvalleymoon.bandcamp.com/album/the-baleful-sounds-of-black-valley-moon-vol-1 —Sharawaji Records - UK Registered Record Label Dedicated To Surf, Instro, Reverb and Twang |
