I received some email from Donna Patane, sister to Doug Henson, who played in Eddie & The Showmen, who found our site and wanted to share this with everyone.
Doug Henson is (was) my younger brother. I was so excited to find this site with information about him and his career with Eddie and the Showmen. Doug was a musical genius who taught himself to play guitar while listening to rock music on the radio. Within a couple of months he began playing with another band and shortly thereafter became a member of Eddie and the Showmen. They used to practice in our garage in Palos Verdes. He loved to surf and he loved the music and was best friends with all the other band members, who were always in and out of our house and loved our mom's cooking. Doug was a career navy man and became a Senior Chief Petty Officer. He also served at NASA on the team that developed the Space Shuttle, but he never lost his love of music. He could play any song on any stringed instrument and treasured his guitar personally signed by Mr. Fender. I miss him very much!
... Doug was only in his early teens when he taught himself guitar. He was 17 when Eddie and the Showmen spent a summer playing warm-up for Johnny Carson in Las Vegas behind some scantily clad go-go dancers. My parents had to think long and hard about letting him go, but he wanted to so badly. They also played at Disneyland and were regulars at a teen dance club in Redondo Beach.
Thank you for keeping this wonderful music and the boys who played it alive!

That is a wonderful note from Donna, very uplifting. I'm happy she found this site and it gave her some joy, and she turned around and gave some to us.

This is why I still read SG101.
It would be lost in FB land.

Thanks for passing that along. I love it when we occasionally get first hand stories and accounts of people who were involved and around when this all went down!

Very cool. Sounds like he's gone now; it's too bad he didn't find this site and have the chance to interact directly. Thanks for the tunes, Doug!
Alright, we need to get Larry Carlton up in here next!

The Eddie and the Showmen Squad Car comp has Doug listed as bass player on these tracks. He really kills it, too. His lines and technique are impressive. Genius indeed!

So glad she wrote you, and that you shared it with us. I really enjoy reading uplifting letters like that.
