Frugal Amps 6G14 clone

Mark at Frugal Amps built me this 6G14 (non -A) first channel clone and after a few shows I can say I really, really dig it. The only issue I have is the volume knob's sensitivity. At 8 o'clock it's just as loud as my Gomez Surfer at 12 o'clock. Any original 6G14 owners can confirm if this is normal? A very small issue in any case.

That is sweet dude! How weird we both just got almost the same amp made. I prefer the normal channel, since the vibe channel is much hotter and distorts quite unpleasantly when I crank it. The normal channel is great though. I paid about $2400 for the 6G14 Showman clone, and I’d do it again! Got a 4-8-16 ohm switch, a variable line out, harmonic vibe of course, and it’s got an adjustable bias pot inside. (These things originally had fixed biasing and you have to use resistors to match the voltage - F THAT!) There’s something much more calming about having a new amp that produces the right tone... I’m reposting the photo just because.

Very nice! I just wanted the first channel with a 4Ω OT because that's all I use anyway. Fit right into a Bassman head cab. Mark posted build progress pictures on the Frugal Amps Facebook page. He was a pleasure to deal with. There was an issue with the PT wiring when it arrived and he promptly paid the cost to fix it. — |
