Zoom G1Xon or G1on multieffects pedal. It's the only processor I used for guitar in these videos. It has not only a great super-splashy spring reverb effect ("springs 63") it has other superb reverbs (including plate), terrific delays and lovely compressors. Its price is lower than the other pedals mentioned yet I'd pay five times as much for it (and I have paid more than that with previous Zoom pedals) Check it out!

It would be interesting if someone can compare oceans 11 and 'springs 63' reverb of the G1ON Zoom...But I think that the oceans 11 is the best right now.

Yes I should. The enormous flexibility of this pedal for just spring reverb tones could take several videos. For example, there are numerous delays, compressions and other reverbs that can be combined with it. Moreover, for use with muted tic-tics I can instantly switch into a patch with enormously higher dwell and mix percentage, that would not work well for non-muted notes, and then switch back to lower levels of reverb. It's on my to-do list, along with cutting down a couple of trees, finishing song recordings, selling a house, etc.

Any opinions on how well the Zoom G1 would work as a headphone amp for quiet practice?

The G1's have 22 amp and cabinet simulations you can mix and match. For example, you could select a Deluxe Reverb into an Orange 4x12 cabinet.
The patch level and Master level might need to be reset if the G1 had been previously setup for connecting to an amp.

In response to your question I just tried it...and it works extremely well. With output directly to headphones (Grado SR125) I hear the same tones that I hear through my PA, computer and bass guitar amp, and they are clear and lovely. There is plenty of volume, and I set the volume far below the maximum. No additional headphone amplifier needed.
To avoid internal overload (i.e., clipping, IM distortion, noise) avoid setting the gain of any effect in a patch above 100% except for the final effect.

I would say Oceans 11 is your best bet. They are well built, can be had for $100 used if you look around, and have a terrific drip. Sure, there might be better pedals, but you'll pay accordingly, and once you get in a band setting, all these little gripes (artifacts, etc) are hardly-if at all- noticeable to you and surely not to the audience. Now if you're primary goal is recording, stick with an actual tank, but for onstage use, the O11 with its small footprint and drippy tank sound, is hard to beat (plus it has a nice plate setting too).

I'm also basing this on having had a Topanga, Fender FRV, Flint, and Surfy Bear (my favorite). The O11 gets it done just fine.

I've had the Oceans 11 for maybe a month now, and I've really come to like it a lot. I had the Boss FRV-1 a number of years ago, and found it harsh and artificial sounding. The Oceans 11 is much nicer and more natural. Digital spring reverb seems to have come into its own these days. 10 years ago there wasn't much out there that was really very accurate.

I just remembered that I already posted here on SG101 a link to a detailed audio demo I recorded with written explanation describing the Zoom G1Xon and its Springs63 reverb effect. The Springs63 effect is the same on the G1on and the G1Xon; the difference is the G1Xon model has a built-in volume-expression pedal and the other doesn't.

Just recorded very-high-splash song you can hear now only at this website (entry dated March 14, 2021).
https://insanitizers.com/blog/
Both lead guitar and two tika-tika tracks were recorded with all reverb from the Zoom G1Xon pedal ("Springs 63" setting). The song is called "Huntington Surfy" and it's a high-splash re-recording of Insanitizers previous "Huntington Surf". I will try to answer questions about the specifics of the pedal (and guitars used).

Both the song and guitar tone sounded great to me!

Deep Thanks for your thoughtful and generous comment, Michael ! So nice.
Here is detail about the effects setting. In the effects chain inside the Zoom G1Xon I placed Compression after Spring Reverb. This is contrary to the default chain sequence. I can get stronger and sweeter splash this way, but for lower levels of splash placing compression first can sound better. The Springs 63 settings I used were 60% for each of Mix, Dwell, and Tone.
Zoom's "Springs 63" effect is included in other Zoom multi-effects pedals, but I don't know if the details vary among these pedals. I have not seen or heard a direct comparison between Zoom pedals and other spring reverb pedals. The multi-effects Zoom pedals allow you to switch among different patches instantly, each with different settings and sequences of effects, just by stepping on a patch selection footswitch. I am grateful for the compactness and lightness of the pedal.

That's definitely a good sound. The reverb never lets you for get that it's there, but it also never gets in the way. To my ear, this is very much in keeping with the sounds you would have been likely to hear in many early '60s recordings.
