Hey all ! I regularly post new music under my solo project, "The Cholla" (like the cactus), I create this post so I can give an update when it happens.
I just released a cover of an anime serie famous in France (not sure about other countries), called "The Mysterious Cities of Gold". It will speak to those who watched it as a kid (and others too hopefully!). I didn't actually, but my wife recently got back into it and I thought the theme was cool !

I have two other releases on Bandcamp that you can check out, including this EP of Zelda music covers : https://thechollasurf.bandcamp.com/album/link-of-the-surf-guitar
Cheers !

Hey guys,
My new album is out on Bandcamp:
https://thechollasurf.bandcamp.com/album/anthropocene
On this one my punk/metal background resurfaced a bit I think, it has more fuzz/distortion that my previous releases. I really like these songs, hopefully you'll enjoy them too ! CDs are available for pre-order.

This is great! Thank you for sharing it! I'd love to know more about how you approach your one-man operation.

Thanks rfcii ! Glad you like it, I appreciate your feedback !
I record everything myself in my home studio, except this time I had a friend who played the bass. He's in France so we exchanged files online. I sent him demo files, he recorded on it and sent me DI tracks.
For the guitars I found a way to record silently my Showman amps with very good results (at least to me), using a reactive load and speaker impulse responses. This works very well ! This is absolutely necessary for me as I live in an apartment with a baby and cannot record a live amp.
For the drums I program them in Superior Drummer. With enough tweaking it sounds very realistic (this takes a LOT of time). I try not to go crazy with it to stay in the bounds of what a real good drummer could do
And finally I mix/master everything myself. It took me 7-8 years to get to a point where I am happy enough with the end result to make a real release out of it, and not only demos.
Of course having band mates is the real deal, but I have the BB Bandits for that. Maybe I'll make a real band out of this project in the future. In the meantime I enjoy experimenting with stuff on my own, and learning about music production in the process.

Immediately purchased based on the first track - love this!! So experimental and cool, visionary! Looking forward to listening to the whole thing at home.

Just wanted to say your new album sounds killer. I purchased the CD. Your one man band skills are insane! Great work - I LOVE fast surf songs. However, The Tuning Song - how'd you come up with that?
I love it!!

Yeah originally that song was a joke, but I though it sounded pretty good so I included it. E-A-D-G-B-E is a pretty cool chord progression haha. I think it would work well live, you pretend you're the annoying guitarist tuning at full volume, and boom all the band jumps in
