Permalink Part 2: How Far Have You Traveled to See a Surf Band??

New Topic

In late October of "06" I drove from Rapid City, South Dakota to Las Vegas (about 1200 miles) for a one night only Ventures concert at The Cannery resort/casino. I'd do it again in a heartbeat. SFJ.

after school ended I squatted in Connecticut for an extra week instead of going home to New Orleans because Dick Dale was playing.

The casino where he was playing was an hour away, I showed them my ID and they say it's expired. Louisiana IDs sometimes have a sticker on the back that extends the expiration date, but the ink on mine had rubbed clean off. They sent me back home, no rock and roll to be had.

Storm Surge of Reverb: Surf & Instro Radio

I drove some 250 miles to see The Ventures recently, and back the same night (3.5 hrs each way)

I guess over 2200 miles one way! 500 miles is nothing to see agood surf show! 200 miles is a frequent thing for me.

i drove about 9 hours to new jersey to see satans pilgrims and the nebulas

i've driven 6 1/2 to 7 hours to DC to see los straitjackets (twice), the ventures, and slacktone with the atomic mosquitos

i flew to florida, after driving 3 hours to the norfolk airport to see the surge using the excuse that i was going to a trade show (they played at it)

Ya know, that Mid West Surf Guy and Mom Surfing are two of the best people I can think of.......Thanks Carol and Guy for supporting us.

Eddie, Rich, Sticks and Mitch

Traditional........speak softly and play through a big blonde amp. Did I mention that I still like big blonde amps?

I've driven to Chicago many times. 5 hours one way. Driven to Indianapolis many, many times, 7-8 hours one way. Flown to the West Coast to see The Surf Coasters, Pollo del Mar, The Sub-Mersians, and The Hypnotic IV. Flown to Seattle and drove from there to Portland to see Satan's Pilgrims. I have only seen one show this year. Sad

Thanks Eddie! I hope all of the surf bands out there know they have a devoted crowd of fans! Real die hards! eddie are you going to Atalnta's drive invasion?
Guy

If I get to the drive invasion, it will have to be on Monday as The Surge! is supposed to play for two private pool parties on that Saturday and Sunday. If ya come down, bring plenty of mosquito repellent. When the sun goes down over there the bugs get hungry!!!

Reverbs, Ed

To stay legal on this thread, I just drove to Denver to catch the Beloved Invaders and jam with the Aquasonics! (Ok, ok, I was headed there for vacation anyway) But hanging out with those guys was well worth the drive. I'm working on SoniChris to join us for Surf Fest '08!

Personally I have never driven far to see a surf band, but I was very impressed that a group of people flew in from europe to see our reunion show last new years.

Happiness is being a surf musician that actually surfs. Ride Lord Hunt Surfboards!!!

I flew from Vegas to Portland to see Satan's Pilgrims & The Ghastly Ones... Goodtimes!

Hey, you got to hang out with Mario for a week! That's pretty cool. You two could have put on your own show!

I drove my full-race Ford Fiesta 125 miles to Portland to see the Verbtones and meet Unsteady Freddie. Got plastered on Wild Turkey 101 and ended up sleeping in the back of the Fiesta on a side street.
Here's a pic.
