Hi every Surf player, I hope you're all doing good.
I've been playing electric guitar, roughly since around 14 years of age. I've played many different styles of music, though none fit my personally as a musician neatly. Only since about two months ago, I got into Surf style music and cannot get enough of it. I need to learn more! What are some of not only the greatest, but also some challenging surf guitar and vocal performances as well with excellent song writing? I not only need to improve my music playing skills, also my knowledge of Surf culture.
I recently made a thread in the gear section about getting a reverb tank. I just bought an original 1965 blackface reverb vintage tank, and I cannot give enough thanks for all of your recommendations. If any of you have tips or other suggestions on this reverberation tank I purchased, I would high appreciate it.
Thank you every one.

Have a go at some of the Slacktone stuff. Dave's songwriting is pretty advanced.
I've found surf music requires a very different picking hand technique. From quick triplets ahead of the note to full on tremolo picking, surf music relies less on fast fingering than on accurate picking.
PS Don't ask me about tremolo picking, mine's rubbish. It's better than it was, but nothing compared to Dick Dale or Dave & the Pussies.

Check out "Flying Guitar" by Takeshi Terauchi and The Bunnys.

My bandmate really wanted to cover this so I/we learned it.
Fairly challenging, especially if you want to play it cleanly.
Really fun song.
Cheers,
Jeff

Why not just peruse the recent “favorite surf song” thread and pick one out?
https://surfguitar101.com/forums/topic/31785/
There was also this great recent thread about exactly what you’re asking (challenging songs):
https://surfguitar101.com/forums/topic/31621/
As well as this one about the favored songs for beginners:

Fancy and fast picking is doable for me, but damned if I can make fancy chord-like arpeggio stuff!
