Thanks Brian for making this comp happen. I’ve been a member for quite a while but this is the first time I’ve made a contribution. Shout out to Drumsdick who did the drums/percussion on our track. It was fun to collaborate!

Thanks, el Pablo. Nice tune! Fun stuff, everyone!
It took us about six days, including work schedules and trans-Atlantic time zones. There is still time if anyone else would like to collaborate.
PM me to get started!

Our collaboration went like this:
Paul (a.k.a. “el Pablo”) messaged me. He lives south of Paris, France. I live in Connecticut, between New York and Boston.
We swapped email.
Paul sent me a rough recording of his idea.
Paul then also sent me separate files for bass/bandoneon.
I mixed those together in Garage Band to make a timing track to follow.
I then recorded 6 individual percussion tracks and sent them to Paul.
I sent a file with all of the tracks together for Paul to reference.
Paul recorded his final lead, and then mixed the 8 or 9 tracks together in his DAW.
We declared victory together, and Paul submitted our finished track.
Voila!

While this year's comp has a fine group of entries, it is a little disappointing to see so few. This is the lowest number of submissions since the comp started. Is everybody losing interest? Is everyone just too busy? I hope not but it sure seems that way.
Anyway, kudos to all who submitted this year. I for one, always look forward to what everyone comes up with. The comp is a great opportunity to share your playing with others no matter what level you are at as a musician and I appreciate Brian making this platform available to us all. I just wish more would take advantage of it. Maybe next year? You've all got a whole year ahead to plan for it.

For me (a hack, older 'home-based' musician), it was a matter of simply being too busy.. and 'out of practice' things.. so I missed-out on dropping something in for another year, dammit. ...but f'goodness' sake don't give up on the compilations -- Tracks from all of the SG101 compilations are in constant rotation on my music players... and I'd hate to see 'em stop coming through every year... and after all, they're all about the fun aspect of our fave music, eh?

Two more just under the wire...(and maybe 1 over but I'll allow it!!)
18 - The AquaSonics "Exotic!"
19 - Readfeather "Paddy Wagon"
Thank you and thanks to everyone who contributed this year!
While I don't have any hard data, it does feel like the site is much smaller than it was a while ago. And also the last 2 years my personal life has been in the ditch and I haven't had much interest or time for the website, which is why the last two comps were held so late and had shorter durations. Still I think this is a fine crop of songs and interest in the comp has never really waned.
I totally forgot to put last year's comp on archive.org. So my next task will be to get last years and this years comp over there for a wider audience and for archival purposes in case this site goes belly up.
Thanks again I'm really happy and proud our little community does this every year.

Any discussion on the tracks? Some folks put a lot of time and sweat into these and no one really talks about them. What was your favorite? Did you hear something interesting?

Hey does anyone want to make some cover art for the archive.org collections? We will need something for 2017 and 2018. Thanks!

I left comments on all of the songs. Some really great stuff in there!

Thanks Ferenc!
Let me know if anyone wants to create some cover art. I can start uploading the tracks without it and add it later. I hope to start doing that in the next few days or maybe on the weekend.
