Permalink Question for all the surf drummers that have their own studio & recording gear.

After recently losing our fifth drummer, my bass player and I are ready to perform live with a drum track. Yes it is cheesy and yes, it is lame, (we know this) so let's get that out of the way now.

We're curious if there are any drummers on SG101 that would like to record drum tracks for us. We have around 25 songs and they are all covers - no originals. You'd basically play along with the song and get it as close as you can to the original. Record it in stereo (if possible) at your studio/man cave. Mono would still be OK.

This is a paying gig, yes indeed! Easy $$$ for you. We can negotiate on one track or all 25. Our songs are covers from bands like The Madeira, The Razorblades, Messer Chups, Dick Dale, Ventures etc. etc. Some easy old school stuff, some more challenging.

We are tired of having to start from scratch with a new drummer every so often. The people here (in North Texas) don't know much about surf music but they sure enjoy it when it's presented to them lol We had an outdoor show this past Saturday, during a pre-Halloween event. GREAT reception.

Having said that, we'd like to continue with our surf band. If playing along to a drum track defines us, we're OK with that. Feel free to email me at GellertD@Gmail.com or simply private message me here on SG101. Either way is fine and I will get back to everyone quickly.

P.S. If you know of a good drummer but they don't get on here often, please send them a short note letting them know of our search. They may be interested, one can never can tell.

Duuuuude, I totally feel your pain! I was in the same boat last year. I ended up making the decision to find a good personality fit (loves surf, takes direction, has a compatible style, AND is super fun to hang out with), and WAIT for his skills to get there!

That was January and it’s been a long haul of practicing but he’s basically become a badass surf drummer!

And then I just decided to do the same thing with the organ. A friend only had childhood piano lessons decades ago, but was really into it. So now she’s learning chords and the set slowly but surely.

I’ve been trying to have this band since the early 90s, and I’m hoping this lineup sticks.

I can play drums and record them but I’m not that good...

We just lost our practice/recording space and are scrambling to find a new home. I unfortunately don't see us getting our situation sorted anytime soon, otherwise, I'd be totally game!

Drummers are a problem for our band as well. We have a great drummer; one of the best I've ever heard, but family matters have kept him out of state for some months now. We had a fellow from work sit in and he played very well, but he's not available on a weekly basis, so here we are, as drummer-less as Spinal Tap. Smile

When Surf Guitar is outlawed only outlaws will play Surf Guitar.

Seems like other bands have drummer issues, too lol

Well, I am still looking. I hope someone turns up wearing a red cape and says "here I am"!

I've seen so many great drummers at this year's convention... I'd love to move any one of them out here permanently.
