MFDs are awesome! Coupled with the PTB circuit--necessary to bring them into JM pickup territory by rolling off bass--you have much better sonic flexibility than Fender pickups and MFDs are also quieter, hum-wise. Leo knew what he was doing when he brewed that design up. Top

Not bad!). He also LOVES surf music (and even performed at the Huntington Beach Surfin' Sundays show recently), so here he's performing a bunch of instro/surf tracks. Leo knew what he was doing when he brewed that design up. What you say makes a lot of sense, but I swap out half (on average, if I had to guess) of the stock pickups in all my guitars and basses. I also tend to ditch the tone controls about half the time. I tend to prefer noiseless single coil pickups Since I use a lot of gain and don’t like the hum. That being said, I probably won’t use this guitar like I use any of my other guitars. I want to setup a guitar for surf: dedicate a higher strap since I tend to be able to tremolo pick better when the guitar is higher than I normally set the straps on my guitars; and also have pickups that are voiced differently than anything else I have. But, Id like to know what the pickup dimensions are, so I can know before I buy the guitar if I’m going to be able to use a noiseless aftermarket pickup in place of the stock one without significant irreversible modifications. I realize that there’s a good chance th hum won’t be an issue playing surf, but I want to know what I’m getting before I order one online. USA and Tribute Dogenys use the same pickups. Can somebody please measure them for me? I’ve yet to see one in person. I love a good forum, but I’m getting sick of one of two things constanly happening. 1 - Ask a simple question and get responses telling you why you don’t need the answer because of x,y and z. Then you have to reply and explain why x,y and Z aren’t as important to you as n. Sometimes you’ll then get an answer, but often you’ll get more people telling you how wrong you are for stating your preference. Meanwhile your preference could’ve been left out of the whole discussion since you asked a question with a concrete answer that really has nothing to do with preference or opinion. 2 - you create a new post so that no threads are thrown OT after searching for the ansemwer across the internet. You give in-depth explanations for why you want to know what you want to know. You take the time to address arguments that people may bring up rather than answering your question. You explain your entire rig and playing style to give the question context. Days go by and you get no responses. Plenty of view, though. You decide that maybe you went overboard, and post a new simplified version of the question in a new thread and provide a link to your old thread so that maybe people can look at it if they need more info or can’t provide a simple answer without knowing more. This time you get more reply’s but it’s all questions about what it is your trying to do , why you’re trying to do it, why you don’t have to know the answer, etc. Once you’ve addressed all of these one by one (even though you already addressed them in the original thread) then (sometimes) you get an answer Doesn’t happen all the time but it happens enough for the pot to boil over and cause a rant like this every few years.
