So, I have set down the 6-string and picked up the bass. In between studying technique and practicing, who should I be listening to?

Listen to some live recordings of Zappa from 1984 and 1988. Scott Thunes' bass playing is SPECTACULAR.

Yes. Lots of foam in front of the bridge in my P.

I've also played with a pick so I can palm mute.

I play upright too and have learned from that to dislike ringing bass strings. Bloom and decay FTW.

While I almost always play guitar on gigs, playing bass is one of my greatest pleasures. There’s a raw logic to the instrument that appeals equally to the artist in my soul and to my inner nerd. There’s just such a satisfying logic to good bass playing that I always feel it a treat.
