My buddy Bill aka remora1 picked this kit up for me last year at the so cal convention, and I finally got it built and Incorporated into my board!
I built it with true bypass and an led indicator. My board was built in 2004 and had a much different configuration. Just so happened the spring pan fits inside! Here's what I've got!

I've ordered the two Surfy kits, but it will be a while before I can assemble them and try them out. I see most people run their Surfybear before the amp, but haven't seen any comments on using it through an effects loop. I understand the idea is to replicate the Fender outboard unit, but is there really a substantial difference running it through the FX loop?

I'm considering a similar configuration for a future build. I am curious - do you get a spring pan crash when you step on any of the other pedals?

Can anyone clarify how exactly to wire up the power jack? It seems fairly obvious which lug connects to the center (positive) but there are two others and im not sure which to wire the negative to.

You can either find out with a Digital Multi Meter or just connect to both (bridge 2 and 3).
One of the two (nr 3 in this case) will otherwise be disconnected the moment you plug in the power adapter.
If not using a battery, which is why the third lug is there, namely to 'automatically' disconnect the battery the moment you plug in an adapter, I simply bridge the two.

okay great, thank you! so im bridging the positive connection right? ie. 1 = negative, 2 and 3 = positive?

There's no positive or negative on that DC connector. It all depends on the polarity of the plug of your your adapter.
Every 9V adapter for stompboxes is center negative (meaning the inside of the plug/jack from the adapter is negative, and the outside is positive):
For the Surfy Bear however you need a 12V adapter and they are pretty much all center postive (the inside of the adapter plug/jack is positive, the outside is negative) :
Check your adapter for that sign.
According to that polarity you make the connections to the Surfy Bear pcb.
It's most likely center postive, meaning that the inside will connect to that pin labeled "1" and the outside is negative and will connect to 'shell/sleeve/housing' labeled "2" and "3".
So, you'll be bridging the two lugs that are negative and you connect those that to the place on the circuit board that has the ground symbol:
The other lug goes to the + sign on the pcb.

I think you're confusing the left part of the picture with the adapter plug (the male part)
But that pin (1) you see is actually this pin in the female part which connects to the center positive part of the (male)adapter plug:
They should have used a "=" sign instead of "->" because now it might seems that the plug/pin at the left goes/inserts into the connector at the right.

Since no battery can power a Surfy-Bear to begin with, and to avoid confusion and possibility of shorts, I just cut/break the excess plug off. Not unlike a ... do I have to spell it

I unfortunately have very limited time and have only had our fired up once to make sure it worked and then 1 other time where I wasnt really using it to much or testing for unwanted crashes. But it was easy enough to force a crash!!! As soon as I get a chance I will test more thoroughly and report back!

Yesterday I finally finished my Surfy bear / tremolo build.
I thought I should post some photo's.
I am super proud & happy with the result.
Sprinkhaan is dutch for grasshopper.
I build this one for a friend.

Couple more quick questions ...
1) am i correct that it makes sense to solder the red rca jack to the reverb output of the pcb and white the reverb input on the pcb (to match red input on tank and white output) or do i have this reversed?
2) the only rca cable i have handy is around 9 ft long, which is excessive for this project. Will this cause any issues or am i fine to use it?

The board on the left is the surfybear,
The footswitch controls 3 relays on the switching board... (the one in the middle) 1= reverb on/off 2= dual mix xontrol switching 3= tremolo on/off.
The board on the right is the tremolo. it's a design based on the EA tremolo. You can switch it to boost only mode. So it can be used as a clean boost aswell.
And lastly I added a switch that changes the order of the tremolo -> reverb to reverb -> tremolo.
Also I added an opamp circuit to make up for the slight volume drop of the surfy bear.
That's about it.

Sublime, Dealer's choice I suppose. It won't matter what color RCA jack goes to reverb in or out. The cables just need to be hooked to them and the reverb tank correctly. I guess 9ft cables will be okay... just a lot of excess wire to bundle up in your enclosure.
