Make sure to wear those the next time I host a jam, MJ. We can always use a good laugh.

I hope the very best for them and respect their musicianship. I have a strong taste for old school Surf and/or music which harkens back to that era. I have three songs by them and really appreciate their work.
Music is a fickle business on the best of days. I have seen national caliber jazz guitarists playing for tips and untalented hacks making big bucks. Some of the greatest Blues guitarists in history never knew a moment’s prosperity. Instrumentals have been a hard sell for quite a while, too, so that’s a consideration.
Frankly, I wouldn’t encourage anyone to try to make a living off of music, but there are a handful of people pulling it off. I hope this act can do the same. They play well, have visual appeal and PC or not, girl bands have a novelty appeal.

This is a brand new original .notice how the drummer can sound good without
playing too loud.

There’s a million better surf bands out there than them. But they’re girls and their presentation is super. It’s a proven recipe. I hope they take over the world.

Hey, Josh. You're probably right, but that's kind of the point of the thread. We all know how far being a "regular" surf band will get you, even if you're REALLY good. Bands that have something else going on that makes them more billable to the general public usually get threads like this (the above-mentioned Monsters From Mars were one, I believe) because despite the fact that we're all well aware of where we stand, we still like to entertain the notion that there's something, some fluke thing, that could propel surf music back in the general direction of the popular realm that it occupied once upon a time. It's wishful thinking that we like to engage in because I think we're all rooting for it on the occasions that something makes it seem even remotely feasible.
Here is my take on the viability of Surf having a strong "second Life"
..Instro Surf music painted itself into a corner back in the '60's. The Chord structures and harmonic variety stayed within a VERY narrow lane (The analogy would be Blues music...essentially 12 bar harmonic structure with very little variation)...also the SONG structure had very little variety...(I-chord, IV-chord back to I-chord, some Bridge variant, I-chord, IV-chord, I-chord, Ending)...not a whole lot you can do with that.
For my own amusement with our originals, we have been trying to push the boundary of standard Surf structures such as: adding odd time signatures to the bridge, we also wrote a four-part Fugue playing in the Surf style...ANYTHING to push the envelope....will it sell...doubt it but we have fun doing it regardless.
..My 2 cents...

They've done a great job of marketing themselves. If that means more new people getting into surf music, and guitar-based instro in general, then I'm all for them. A rising tide lifts all boats. Or surfboards, in this case

If nothing else, I bet we see a surge in all-girl surf bands with bouffant hair and go-go boots in the coming years. Like we have with Mexican wrestling masks the last 20 years or so...

We are going to share a show with them in August at our home court, Tiki Underground in Hudson Ohio. I've been talking a bit with Nichole and we are all very psyched. A lot of "non-surf" people will be at this show because of them. I love these ladies!

They are great players and hard workers. We are excited for the success they are seeing! They are in the studio now with their new drummer. New single coming very soon!
In the meantime, we just got a fresh repress of their EP. You can pick up at hi-tide.us/shop
