I think Svetlana is Tatar or Ingush - North Caucasian for sure, hard for me to say which nationality, but not Slavic. Polina has a French-sounding last name but definitely Slavic looks.

Messer Chups just posted this clip, the first one I've seen with Polina (the other clips were Oleg playing with Polina's band Black Lagoons). Sorry to see Svetlana go, but it looks like the bass duties are in good hands

Ahhhh...it sounds great! One thing I wonder about is their projection screen movies. If you look at their old clips with Svetlana, she's in a lot of the "B/W horror scenes" behind Boris. I guess they had to take her scenes out

I like Oleg looking over at his new bass player Polina like...."OK, the end is coming up...are you ready..?"

I'm just waiting her to get a Fender bass ... that would complete the transition for me. Also ... looking forward for new tunes for her to develop her own style at this point she is just being Zombie Girl V2.

Anyone who would like to send Svetlana well wishes she has been quite active in the Bleak Engineers video comment section HERE. She "will continue with surf music in a while" and hopes to visit California once again.

I was surprised to see this note from Svetlana in the comments to the B.E. video: "Was not my decision to leave MC.I was playing for 12 years. Oleg is the boss, his choice." Seems like she got sacked after the last tour (she was with them when I saw MC in Cleveland in October). Everything seemed fine with them at the time, and the band spent quite a long time after the show hanging out together at the bar. I will say, though, Svetlana commanded the lion's share of the attention at that show. Maybe Oleg feared becoming second banana in his own band?

What is it with Russians and instro surf...? Seems to be a few bands around at the moment. I really like Messer Chups but have also being playing this a few times lately, a Russian trio called The Eyeberries, with a tune called Zombie Catchers (other videos are available):

I see. I guess that makes sense, because given the timing the B.E. project must have already been underway when I saw them in October. Perhaps they'd already made the decision to split after that tour. In any case, it's a shame, though Oleg seems to have assembled a strong, updated unit.
