Permalink Slapback. Do you use it? If so, tape or analog?

I tend to use a little slapback delay in my rig as an 'always on' effect. Is that typical for this stuff?
Seeing as how I'll never be rich enough to own an echoplex, and in fact I'm too gear poor right now to get much of anything fancy, would you suggest using an analog delay pedal or a digital pedal that models a tape echo to get the most traditional slap back tone?

I love a short slap back. I tend to use a Mystery Train and/or a Strymon for longer delay stuff. I would say that with surf stuff I'm just about as likely to have it off as on. Sometimes it just clutters the sound for a particular song and if clarity is what I'm after, I'll give it a rest - particularly if I've got serious drip coming from the amp. Follow your own sails.

Cool

Two of the better "bang for the buck" analog delay pedals that work well are the MXR Carbon Copy and Way Huge Aqua Puss. I have the latter on my small board and am very pleased with it. Both are usually widely available pre-owned on eBay and Reverb.com.

Another vote for the Aqua-Puss. I have a Catalinbread Belle Epoch that sounds cooler and can probably do crazier stuff, but I only use the Aqua-Puss because I like it more for what I'm playing with The Mystery Men? I use it to add a little something to my occasional leads or to accentuate the splash-back on chunky rhythm parts.

I use a Dunlop Echoplex EP103 pedal. Basically a digital emulation of an Echoplex.

In the past I've used 80's Ibanez Analog Dealys (AD9 & ADL), new Boss DM2 Waza and MXR Carbon Copy. The Carbon Copy kind of got lost in the mix, may favorate is the Dunlop Echoplex pedal and/or Boss DM2-Waza.

Sometimes. MXR Carbon Copy (analog) with my main rig and Zoom MS-50G (digital) with my couch rig.

I use pretty long analog delay with little repeats and low level almost for every track, the idea Ivan Pongracic gave here in one of the posts. Tried several delays and echoes and stopped with Carbon Copy, not too bright to be really heard but just gives some space and fullness to the sound.
