Only now realizing Sonido Amazonico was a cover. Still a fan. Retiring back under my rock now.

I highly recommend Los Mirlos, those of you with spotify just search for them. Another stellar chicha band was Los Destellos. Those of you who know me might be interested to know that I'm on hiatus from The TomorrowMen, and along with Tony our drummer, we have joined up with the members of the Deadbeats to form our own chicha style cumbia band. We had our first gig and it was very successful. The sheer novelty of having people dance to our music, actual couples really dancing, was astounding https://www.instagram.com/p/BgLEpokjsmk/?taken-by=combotezeta Anyway, if you start to dig into this music, you will find a lot that would appeal to surf music fans. Definitely start with the comp referenced in Fady's youtube link. —Danny Snyder I am now playing trumpet with Prince Buster tribute band 'Balzac' Playing keys and guitar with Combo Tezeta Formerly a guitarist in The TomorrowMen and Meshugga Beach Party Latest surf project - Now That's What I Call SURF Last edited: Mar 30, 2018 19:48:27 |

Wow Danny, that's some great stuff! (There are some more short videos on the Combo Tezeta Instagram.) I always thought it would be a cool combination to have the percussion from the early Santana albums combined with a more surfy guitar sound and less jam based song writing, and it would basically lead to this. I will definitely check out that comp! (But I still hope the T-Men hiatus is only temporarily!) —Los Apollos - cinematic surf music trio (Berlin) |

Thanks for the post Fady. Like you, I'd never heard the original or known it was a cover. Good luck with the new project Danny! Sounds like a blast. —Site dude - S3 Agent #202 "It starts... when it begins" -- Ralf Kilauea |

I assume that you know that Phantom Four's Lorke Lorke is a cover of a Armenian/Kurdish (and some claim Turkish) song. Last edited: Apr 04, 2018 20:44:54 |

Cool to see some chicha love here! Other big hitters are Juaneco y Su Combo, Los Destellos, who did some chicha and other more garage-y stuff, and Los Orientales de Paramonga, who did guitar instro cumbia and salsa. There are lots of awesome old bands from Peru in both the cumbia and rock n' roll vein, with lots of scattered hits here and there. A couple more of my favorites are Okinawa 2000 or La Playa by Los Belkings or Amelia by Los Jaguars. All these bands rule! |
