Permalink NGD for someone - Fender Mustang PJ Bass Sonic Blue

New Topic

It was my best buddy's retirement yesterday. My dear half Italian friend Roger, The only person I've ever known get a pay rise for making the company laugh so much! That is absolutely true. Late last week I received an urgent call from his works asking if I could think of any musical equipment he may like as a present, an extra token of appreciation that would excite a musician in the £500-£1000 price range. Story short I knew his bass guitar was the weak link of all his studio equipment and I knew he liked it because of the short scale. I quickly decided the MIM Fender Mustang PJ in sonic blue would make a nice presentation, It would be also Roger's first Fender guitar.

He phoned me in the evening to say he was delighted and dazzled by the looks. He said when saw it he thought, how did they know I need a bass guitar? Then he thought, I bet Mal (that's me) would like this! Then he thought I wonder who chose it?! Well I can't take all the credit because I'm highly influenced by SG101.

You helped me come to a decision ASAP the day before yesterday!

Thank you SG101.

That's a cool gift! Congrats on your friend's retirement.

I saw one of those in person at Guitar Center. Sonic blue with mint pickguard is a perfect combo! I don't play bass at all, but I almost bought it because it looked so good.

Thumbs Up

Very nice looking bass guitar and a great story!

The Pink Floyd lyric just became less irksome!

"But if you ask for a rise it's no surprise they're giving none away.."

You guys officially call it a rise. In the states we call it a raise. He's not pronouncing it weird; he's just saying a different word..

And hey, great bass! It's a looker.

Yeah it's a pay rise but only if you raise your game! Smile

Great story. I'm a short-scale bass guy, by necessity, a 34" scale bass will have me in tendonitis almost instantly and my orthopedic surgeon suggested just sticking with a short scale. (No carpal tunnel issues; I've been through the wringer with those tests.) Anyhow, I'm actually very content to play a 30" scale and have three short scales, including a Warwick Custom Shop fretless.

I have a CIJ Mustang which I love, but that PJ Mustang really grabs me. I've played one and the sound is tremendous. It would be an excellent bass for almost any use with a wide palette of sounds available.

Thanks I was hoping someone would chime-in. We had a café lunch today and I had the chance to ask about the PJ. Roger said pretty much the same as you i.e. ease of use and great tonal palette of sounds, he also said the factory setup was excellent.
