"Where can I buy a longer attention span? " Well, a weekly 3hr. gig for $ at a major resort in Hawaii would help you focus on 40-50 tunes......and two guitars trading off on leads/rhythm helps a lot......growing up with a lot of these tunes helps cause you just know some of them. I mean, they're just in your head. The best part is being a proud musician that got himself into the position to be chosen to be in a working band that gets to play surf music. Yeah we have a lot of tunes available but we don't do them all in one night or the bartenders would string us up on a coconut tree. Wooza, i think you should call the one in Gm.......ummmm....."Rocket Reef" after a surf spot here on Kauai.......nah, just kidding! Very Happy

Some good tunes in those repetoirs, but I dont see one single Shadows title or anything from Australia. Particularly the Atlantics and the Denvermen had some great tunes

Dusty2539....."Apache" is a Shadows song, even tho it's been recorded by quite a few groups, we always credit it to The Shadows.....and i just learned "Peace Pipe"!! When i'm considering Shadows tunes (thanks stormtiger!) i feel i need to add some of my own influence as they're kinda short. I realize purists don't care for that but....for recording and 'live' i try to make them a bit longer cause they're such great tunes. By that i mean i add another bridge or chorus or whatever and i am known as The Milkman and others call me stretch!!! And i suppose we all do that to an extent......right? I would be interested in hearing the Atlantics and the Denvermen so i'll look them up.
Aloha you surf dogs!!

Dusty, in our song list was the Rise and Fall of Flingle Bunt, Apache, and Midnight which are all Shadows songs, and we do Hawaii 5-0 the way the Atlantics do it... a real crowd pleaser.

CUTBACK

Have The Shadows ever had a 'hit' in the States ?

Just wondering. I've been listening to, and playing Apache since about 1963, and I didn't even hear The Shadows version until last year.

Louie

The cheese is "Treasure CAVE"

Louie......i don't think The Shadows ever had a "hit" in America and i too heard their version for the first time last year on their myspace.....i know Apache from Jorgen Ingman and i haven't heard a better version than his. It's one of those signature tunes from our youth and it sounds a little like a Les Paul style recording to me. God bless Les Paul!!!!
