I agree with Jake but feel the gist of Deke’s article is the cogent opposition between bogus flattery and true appreciation of not only talent but the significant character of Link Wray. Jake is right, that Hall of Fame sycophancy is meaningless and pales before the content of a life like Link’s. No award, especially one as sold-out as that, can even footnote a biography of someone who is truly great. They flatter themselves that their ceremonies matter one whit to those who love music and honor creators and their sacrifices.
Those of us who can write, and have knowledge to share, should. I’m willing to edit rough draughts if anyone wants to collaborate.

My feeling about a lot of awards, halls of fame, etc. is: “says who?” Some guy could start a Rock & Soul Hall of Fame in his tool shed and he might have a better, more accurate roster than the one in Cleveland. Big league does not necessarily mean better.
I’ve gone to NASCAR races and to local jalopy races. The jalopy races were more fun. I’ve heard name bands and there’s something to be said for that, but some of the most memorable musical events of my life were nearly anonymous local bands comprised of guys that worked a day job but loved music enough to play gigs on the weekends. I can’t even barely remember the great movies I’ve seen over the years, but I’ve seen a handful of high school plays and remember the experience decades later.
Who gives a crap about the bleedin HOF?

^ THIS, especially the 3rd paragraph. The irrelevance of things like the Grammys - and the other 17 such mutual masturbation fests every winter - will never honor anything. The way forward is in that paragraph as well; words to heed. Make the music & drive on.
