I have a relative whose guitar playing was severely compromised by finger joint pain and he recently starting using cannabis oil on them after overcoming his skepticism and reports that it works incredibly well and provides long lasting relief that lets him play all day. |

In my early 20s, so about 25 yrs ago, I developed tendonitis around my wrists due to guitar, badminton, and volleyball. I had to stop everything for about 6wks and slowly return back to activity but was told I cannot do all of it again. And some years back I started to develop painful joints in my left hand. This was at a time that I was getting up first thing in the morning and going at my guitar playing full steam ahead. Nowadays, I wait at leaat 1.5 hrs after I wake up before playing. Light activity around the house to warm up muscles and get the joints moving is something I see as an investment for my future years of guitar playing. —Lorne |

Greetings all. Just went through a round of "Trigger finger" in my ring finger, fretting hand. The tendon that runs up your finger gets snagged where it passes through the little tunnels in your hand, makes your finger catch, the joint in the middle pop, and lots of pain in the joint right behind your fingernail when fretting notes. I'm 56 and thought it had to do with age but it actually flared up when I started doing some new finger exercises for legato and also started playing/practicing "Black Sand Beach"quite a bit- something about that song and some bad mechanics on my part. A cortisone shot in the hand and about a two weeks of laying low took care of it but it's working it's way back. Fortunately there is a little procedure that can be done to take care of it for good if if necessary, but I'd like to avoid it if at all possible. Naturally by the time I went to a doctor it had gotten to the point of being fairly painful and with not knowing what it was, I was stressing with thoughts like what if I can't play any longer, what am I going to do with my guitars and stuff, etc... not a great feeling! —Member in good standing, Mentone Beach Syncopation Reverberation Association |

I'm currently suffering from tennis elbow, brought on by increased guitar playing in retirement 1) raising the guitar by shortening the strap Everything that Delrin96mm says above makes a lot of sense, too. My suggestions are just for tennis elbow, but some sort of physical therapy might be helpful. Good luck. |

I used to be that person that just picked up a guitar and expected to play with all the dexterity available to me in an instant but I've since gotten wiser, and older, and a little more worn out, LOL. Cheers, http://www.facebook.com/CrazyAcesMusic |
